There's a difference between complaining and giving constructive criticism. I think it's fair to request an accurate description of the item that will be delivered.
It happens so often that something is promised, be it a signed booklet or vinyl sleeve, but an art card is delivered. In some cases the quality of the art card is severely lacking too. In this day and age most people aren't interested in the physical product anymore - the only reason a lot of us spend money on a CD (or worse: cassette!) is to get the autograph. The companies know that and use it to create sales since physical copies sold count higher towards the charts.
They're happy to use us to push physical product but when push comes to shove when they decide to send something else as promised, like an art card or a stamp or autopen, then it's suddenly a 'free gift' and you should thank them for getting anything at all.
P.S. this is a general statement and not aimed at Steve/ the Rock 'n Roll Channel specifically.
I'm happy they provide these autographs. I think a more general statement like "signed booklet or art card" at the time of sale makes it a lot more clear to buyers what they might be receiving and improve customer satisfaction.

Hi Jor-El (love the name). I do appreciate the feedback including when it's constructive. How else can we improve wherever possible. I also agree an accurate description where possible is more than reasonable.
I will respectfully disagree to some extent regarding physical product. The industry has seen a massive turnaround in physical largely due to vinyl. They cannot keep up with demand and will take 2-3 maybe to meet demand. CDs are not showing great growth but the decline at least for now has stopped and sales are slightly up. again, not signed product. Streaming by far is still the dominant way many consume music. But this is great news for collectors of music signed and unsigned.

The Robbie Kreiger books from TSL were autopenned. Not ripping on them because I sent direct links to here to show that other people had the exact same autograph as my book. They were unaware and it took a week or so to investigate but they got back to me and sent a prepaid mailer to return the book for a refund. Totally appreciated.

We spot check a limited amount. We are adding additional steps to validate as best we can.
As I've indicated before, I started out as a fan and collector and I know the feeling of finding out an item I bought was autopenned or forged. If a signature is called into question and the claim appears valid, we will do the right thing and honor a return.
We deal directly with artists and their management and most are sensitive to delivering authentic signatures when they commit. But we recognize there still can be risk.
We cannot allow a reputation to develop selling bad signatures and won't. Our commitment to our loyal customers and fans.
Understood KD. Most of these items are new releases from the artists and we receive right before the release date. Very little time to scrutinize the autographs and attempt to deliver on a timely basis but we try our best and the conversations here are welcome ideas to implement additional steps where possible to make best attempts to further validate authenticity.

As fans, we are of course pissed when this happens. Its a headache fighting for money back. Some stores flat out refuse to accept returns and deny autopens are anything but authentic. We only ever see our side.. can you give any insight what this is like for you guys? What do you have to deal with? I know you lose money on potential profit but do you also absorbe the shipping cost back for a return? What other losses do you have to deal with? I am trying to put myself in your shoes as best as I can and it seems like issues like this could put any business in crisis mode. You would be stuck in the middle, fighting to keep customers while at the same time fighting with the artists over their stupid decision to use an autopen so their hand isn't sore for a few hours.. as customers, as much as I would be understanding of the potential losses on the business side, we have no choice but to complain thru you. It seems the only way for this practice to ever end is to send you complaints directly and to hurt you guys directly... It doesn't seem fair at all but its the only path for our voices to be heard.
I agree, with missing items and such, the store gets it from the supplier and have no clue. and probably lose money when they need to send it.
However, I don't accept any excuse from a store as for autopen, this is unacceptable, I believe the store should and could check their product before shipping. With autopen you notice right away that the autograph is way too perfect and and as you have so many examples, you should be able to catch it and not send such a thing. (I don't know if the Rock&Roll channel had autopen in the past)
