Maris Signed Baseball Forgery listed by ebay seller Sailnautilus

for some reason, ebay refused to pull this ridiculous Roger Maris forgery. here is the link:

if this were authentic, it would go for 3 or 4 times the starting price, yet there are no bids. Of course, if the starting price were .99 cents, there would be 78 bids on it and the price would be up to 400 dollars by now.

And if you are further interested, check out the Dimaggio, Williams and Mantle HOF plaques that this seller also has listed.

I started this discussion referencing your Maris ball. It is a forgery, whether you want to trust my opinion or not. The Hall of Fame plaques are also forgeries.

If I was such a thief, I would not have responded to your thread (as most all other Ebayers don't respond), and I would not have revised the listing with my comments and reduced the ball price to $0.01. Are those the actions of a thief?????

I agree my husband was ripped off, not a reflection on him as he purchased from reputable sources, but a reflection on this industry. Rather than spouting and defaming on the Internet, why doesn't this group of "the most knowledgable autograph collectors in the world" police this industry by forming a governing body to regulate forgeries and ethics???? Every other industry has one.... But I guess that would put most of your brokers out of business.....

The auctions end today and I will disperse of the balance of the collection outside of ebay.

The governing bodies that police forgeries in the US are the F.B.I. - as well as your local police departments. The folks on this forum (many of them) have worked with both the FBI & local police departments bringing down forgery rings in the U.S. as well as around the world. There are members from all over the Autograph hobby here, discussing autographs.

People on this forum are not out to "defame" you personally--they don't know you or your late husband. What they do know though is autographs.

One of the things this forum does is post information about sites or sellers, selling forged items, to help alert the general public, so they don't get ripped off. You just happen to be someone who didn't know she was selling something forged. And I do believe the information you've given us here, and that they were your deceased husbands items. Your prior sales of non-autograph related materials offers that same information up as well. I offer my condolences.

I can also assure you that when you say the Autograph hobby is bad, and your late husband was ripped off too, you nailed it on the head! All these folks agree. That's why sites like ours exist - to try to help combat that. I do think its kind of ironic though that you are chastising these folks for doing exactly as you suggest they do (you just didn't know you were gonna get snared in it--and that is no fault of your own).

I would like to offer something up though - if it helps you at all. Please, keep your membership on our forum. If you want to ask here about some of the questionable items, please, share the photos and the folks here would be MORE than willing to help you out. Nobody wants to see you offering up non-authentic signatures. The offer is extended for as long as you'd like to stay around. :)

The Roger Maris forgery sold for $77.67. Even the wannabe autograph collectors (except the hardcore wannabe autograph collectors) stayed away from this garbage.
