Let's reserve this thread for any non-musician signed books and other items, at least until a dedicated forum exits for those posts.

Not all musicians or authors are alike -- there's still a lot of knock-on effects from COVID that resulted in artists either appealing to the lowest denominator in order to sell CDs, or charging obscene amounts for private signing sessions because they realized they could make more money in a weekend signing stuff than on a film set for a week.

There's a lot of opportunity out there for eagle-eyed fans -- I learned long ago to accept if I missed out on something (and I've missed out on a lot), but I've also found plenty of interesting stuff that I cherish.

Okay, we get it: You don't like this side of the hobby. Since you really aren't involved other than trolling these threads with condescending commentary, can you please move on? This is seriously tiresome.

Sure. It IS tiresome. Seeing people try to divine what is coming based on numbers or dates or the Zodiac or whatever is equally tiresome. Seeing people unhappy with the results and accepting them just because the are genuine with no eye to quality is also equally distressing. Buying things sight unseen is the ultimate goal of more than one entity. One which I do NOT aspire to. If anyone wants a sight unseen vintage Burton I'd be happy to accommodate. It might be signed. It might not. It might be a cheap art card. It might not. It might not exist at all and be cancelled, but by the time you get your money back I will have invested your money as an interest free loan. Thank you. Or not. Or maybe. Or maybe not. It might be a killer example. Or not. I jest but that is how I feel. I won't bother these speculative discussions anymore with sense.

Oh yeah, I would not and never have sold an Autopen, but I guess the Burton could be an Autopen, maybe.

Look, I'm really not trying to be confrontation here, and I'll confess to being in crankypants mode myself after a long, tedious day. I get the quality aspect, and there are plenty of things I avoid (or get rid of) in that realm alone. I generally don't want subpar (or outright poor) signatures unless it's an artist I really genuinely like - or I get it myself.

But the bottom line is most of this stuff is cheap, essentially sold as a freebie with an album order. Not all of it, but a good portion. Unless you're doing this purely from a business standpoint, no one really loses out a whole lot. For every subpar item, there' are two nice quality items - maybe an absolute grand slam of an item at a minimal price. So it's hardly like people are getting ripped off left and right and that's the whole story. There have been scores and scores of quality items at low prices. From overall standpoint, the bad deals do not truly outweigh the good ones.

One thing to keep in mind is that when you insert yourself into these discussions and the primary demeanor is that your collecting interests and preferences are better than ours, that's just not exactly endearing. It's the main reason why I steer clear of all modern sports related discussions (which are largely not present on AML anyway), as I just have nothing much good to say that wouldn't piss off such collectors. Even within the realm of musician preorders, I'm frequently holding my tongue on opinions of artists, genres, etc. unless it's (mostly) objective (signing habits, autopen history, preorders past. etc).

I've no problem with any of that apart from my interests being "better' than others. I just want collectors to know certain things that are not harmful but potentially harmful. Some in here are collecting this BSB nonsense as an investment. I do worry about that. And all our collectors.

I agree that this isn't the place to continue that conversation but it might be a valid point to discuss outside of this thread. I do believe quality should not have been specifically brought up for this item. The zoomed in pictures posted while searching for signs of autopen gave a distorted sense of overall quality. But there have been times ive questioned the quality of other items received. However, with the type of collector I am, I shrug it off and appreciate I was able to score that item in the 1st place.

The overall quality and even use of words between "art card" and 'insert' potentially could be a concern for certain types of collectors and possibly should be addressed more. Just not here, not for this item

Edit:  I thought we were still on the BSB post haha

My last word here - by its very name an "Art Card" MUST supersede a simple booklet. If not...it's wordplay.

A few options for George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones)

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-virtual-celebration-of-the-targaryen...

My favorite part was:

“The first 2,500 attendees will receive a George R.R. Martin signature in their book. To make sure your book is signed, make sure to select the free "George R.R. Martin Signature" option in addition to your book when registering.”

Interesting…never seen that before for an Eventbrite

Pretty good way to do it. Just have 2500 "tickets" available to buy so people know know when it sells out.
