Questionable Stan Lee signed comics

Well, there's actually nothing questionable about them to me; I'm just being polite. Among the problems are the completely wrong 'S' and the fact that he simply doesn't write such a large signature.

I posted links to active (at the time) auctions that contained bogus signed items. It's one of the things we do here to try and clean up the hobby a tiny little bit. Yes, your username was attached because you were the one selling the items. That's just a fact, not some random unwarranted attack on your character.

I do personally find it implausible that you spent "countless hours" studying Stan Lee exemplars and came to the conclusion that yours matched up favorably and were good to go. They're not even close. You admitted in your first post that some of them were "funny" but you've since backtracked from that.

So if you've made everything right with the buyers, good for you, I'll take that at face value. But I think Carl's post is a lot closer to what actually happened with these items, in my opinion.

This probably falls more into the category of willful ignorance than malicious forgery, but that is not an excuse to list garbage like this.

Somebody contacted the seller and they made the Q&A public in the listing. Too funny to see the complete denial - click to enlarge.

"This drawing came from a very reputable sports collectable store aprox 5 years ago -thry stood behind it at auction & I don;t think they would put the integrity of their entire store at risk for such a small item (spiderman). I also would not put my ebay reputation at risk either.I have been a collector and dealer for 25 plus years and have never knowingly mis-represented myself or an item. I do sincerely appreciate your concern and comment and feel comfortable that the buyer of this will be familiar with Stan Lee's art etc... That store is still in successful business and has been for 20 plus years. They are family owned & operated. Thank You Much for your concerns and looking out for the Ebay community."

Here's two 25-cent-bin caliber comics someone had laying around the house and decided to scribble something they think Stan Lee's name looks like on them, and made up a dumb story about them. Stan is not sitting there haggling prices at his signing table at this point.

Oh, by the way, if you'd like to combine shipping, the seller has a Kurt Cobain signed cassette for the low starting bid of $49.99. "The C.O.A is from T.N.T records out of ney york." Needless to say it already has a bidder.

Looks like the Cobain signed cassette was previously listed and sold for $200, but maybe the high bidder had a temporary moment of sanity and didn't follow through.

"I aquired this piece of music history in a storage unit auction in northern Ut. The unit was full of vinyl, posters, tapes, cd's, dvd's, and a very small amount of Autographed items. It became apprant as we went through the unit it was the inventory to a memorbillia shop called "ROCKIN RONNIES RECORD SHOP"."

I beg to differ on the large signature comment. At a convention around here he signed a few 16x20 photos that I had with a very large signature. But, yes, the ones you had scans of above looked awful.
