Authenticity is Everything
Thoughts on this John Lennon signed drawing
What do you guys think of this? It's currently framed and matted, which is why the bottom of the 'J' is slightly cut off.

The drawing appears authentic in style and humor. Make sure it's not a copy from the stuff in his books. Ballroom can speak to the signature. It looks a bit odd to me.

Here we go. Sotheby's offered it in 2019 and it didn't sell:

It has a Bag One COA. These were offered "behind closed doors" by a traveling gallery that only advertised Bag One prints and other merchandise. The owner would invite people into a private area and show them supposedly original sketches by Lennon and signed by him.

The signature looks odd to me too. It also comes with a COA from the notorious Donald Frangipani. Here’s the drawing in the book In His Own Write:

Thanks, I thought it might show up there. John's is so much better. The horizon line of the OP was indeed wrong by the foot on our right, it struck me strange he'd draw that conclusion (literally).

Where is it for sale now? Sotheby's doesn't mention Frangipani.

Frangipani is definitely not something you want to see, but I wouldn't rule it out on that alone.
Steve, I actually came across another thread on hear where you discussed the Bag One certificates signed by Lynn Clifford. I don't dispute what you're saying, but there must have been some genuine items sold with them as well? I've bought several of the hand signed Bag One lithos over the years and I'm sure one of them had a an almost identical LOA from Clifford. I'll try and find it in my archived images tomorrow.
The Sotheby's listing mentioned that it was "An alternate version of Large John Saliver, as seen in the chapter 'Treasure Ivan' on page 43 of In His Own Write". In reality it's an exact copy with the exception of the creature missing from his shoulder. Would Sotheby's be that sloppy with their authentication?
