The Evolution of the Celebrity Signature

The Evolution of the Celebrity Signature

This group is designed to assist people in analyzing the signatures of celebrities as it evolves throughout their career.

A celebrity can go through many modifications of their signature which often times makes it difficult to spot what may actually be a genuine autograph.

After all, a celebrity can have many different types of signatures: a full signature, a stacked signature, a fan rushed signature, a document/letter signature, etc.

It's my desire to see that collectors will post their genuine exemplars of a particular celebrity's signature modification and signify the decade or era in which it was signed.

Please provide these different types of signatures (if available) in order to compare the similarities that can be made to determine that the signature of the celebrity was indeed made by the same person.

Any analysis collectors can provide to accompany their exemplar would be a welcomed addition to the group thread.

You did the correct thing, Pete. I just used the Reeve one's on the comment page to kickstart the conversation. I will be moving mine over soon to the discussion I created earlier. Thanks again.

I am still not used to the layout of this site, and I am sorry for dumping studies into your Reeve discussion, I have moved them to their own categories.

What a fabulous idea for a topic!

Thanks for the invite Bradford. As I've already told you, I think your knowledge of all things Reeve is astounding but to study the quirks and peculiarities of a signature over the span of someone's lifetime (sadly too short in Reeve's case) certainly takes things to another level and makes for an engaging discussion - great stuff, mate!

Also Pete, I've been watching this site for a while and your Star Wars knowledge and collection is simply stunning - bravo! Love the Ford study as well, amazing how much his signature has changed over the years.

Nice job guys! :)

I was a member of another autograph site a few years ago, which became a bit much in the drama and whining aspect. I left the site and didn't bother going back. I did however put together some autograph studies for them which I will post here tomorrow. Once I find the disc, we will have a nice selection of Star Wars related names including Lucas, Cushing, Guinness, Hamill, Oz and Portman.

Then I will tackle some of the ladies I love to collect....maybe Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence and Keira Knightley.

You made my night, Pete! I hoped that you'd get pulled in by the vacuum of temptation. I also hope this will be a worthy topic for people on our site. You picked, what I believe, to be one of the most debated and evolved (and weird at times) autographs of them all....Harry Ford. Thanks for the time you put into that work of art below.

Thanks for sharing Clive. It's hard to believe that autograph came from the same person. Another good reason to contribute info such as what you shared.

Also glad to have you on board, Ian. I appreciate the title you have honored me with. I guess you can tell who the Harrison Ford expert is (but definitely not limited to).

Great idea for a topic! Here's a signature I've been mulling over for a few weeks. I got the signature of Alan White, drummer of Yes, in person at the 2010 and 2015 NAMM Shows. When I compared the two, I couldn't believe how different they were; if he hadn't signed them in person, I'd say one was a fraud. Of note, for the recent 2015, I was maybe the second or third person in line when he was signing at the Ludwig drums booth; since Ludwig typically has drummers sit there for an hour, I may have gotten him at the end of the hour back in 2010. The word above his signature in 2010 is "thanks," by the way.

I'll begin by commenting with a number of Christopher Reeve signatures. Feel free to start a discussion or comment on whatever celebrity you have a working knowledge of and include examples that would enhance the groups ability to recognize their various style of signatures!
