Ozzy Osbourne, pseudonym of John Michael Osbourne (Birmingham, 3 December 1948), is a British singer-songwriter and composer, who became famous first for being the frontman of Black Sabbath and then with a very successful solo career, so much so that he is unanimously recognized as the «godfather of heavy metal». For his music and his charisma on stage, Ozzy Osbourne is considered an innovator of the genre. The singer is also known for his transgressive attitudes, which have often sparked controversy from religious and conservative groups, and for his excesses which have often exposed him to health problems and problems with the law and have earned him another famous nickname , that of "Prince of Darkness"; he himself fueled his fame in this sense, introducing himself with this last nickname during the first years of his career. In his career as a musician he has sold over 50 million solo records worldwide, a figure that rises to around 100 million in total, counting his career in Black Sabbath from the group's founding in 1970 to 1978, the sporadic reunions in 1985 and the period 1997-2006 - in which, however, they did not release any unreleased albums - and finally from the 2011 reunion to the definitive dissolution of the group in 2017. In 2006, Hit Parader magazine included him in its list of the 100 best metal singers of all times at position number 8
