Babe Ruth Autographed Baseball Signed Christmas Card COA Drew Max AAU Pawn Stars "You Gotta Be Kidding Me, Drew!!!"

Below are two Babe Ruth items authenticated by Drew Max.  Drew Max (AAU/Authentic Autographs Unlimited).

Mr. Max appears frequently on the Pawn Stars reality show.  I have written a few blogs on some of the autographs that Mr. Max has stated are authentic.

Mr. Max gives himself the title of FDE (Forensic Document Examiner).

It is unbelievable that someone who calls himself a Forensic Document Examiner would authenticate the below Babe Ruth autographs.

Mr. Max, what forensic examinations did you perform to authenticate the below Babe Ruth signatures?  Mr. Max, what Babe Ruth exemplars did you use to authenticate the below Babe Ruth autographs?

Here's the first Babe Ruth.  It is listed by Ebay seller nick.ostgren.   The aforementioned Ebay seller is asking $20,000 or Best Offer.  Seriously?  For this garbage?

If the Ebay seller were to submit this to PSA or JSA, it would be rejected in a heartbeat.   This is the type of Babe Ruth forgery that we see on the Coach's Corner auction site in numbers every month.

Here are two Babe Ruth forgeries listed on the Coach's Corner auction site right now.   Notice the similarities between these two and the one posted below.

Here are the Drew Max certed Babe Ruth forgeries. What is most ridiculously obvious is the lack of aging of the ink.  Did you forensically examine the ink, Mr. Max?

Immediately below is a forged Mickey Mantle photo with a worthless COA from A.A.U. and Drew Max.

Our next Babe Ruth item authenticated by Drew Max is a Babe Ruth signature on a Christmas card.

Unfortunately,  this sold for $1500.00.   This is one of the most horrific Babe Ruth forgeries you will ever see.  This was sold by Ebay seller runninwolf24.

Whoever signed that Babe Ruth, must have taken about thirty-minutes to finish it.  This is so slowly drawn, it is ridiculous.

You gotta be kidding me, Drew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am really surprised that his certs are not yet on ebay's esteemed list

I second that, Terrier.  Maybe one day.

Maybe Chumley is doing the authentications when Drew gets too busy.

Hi,  I am the seller of the Christmas Card and learned about this Blog from a fellow eBay member.  I have already offered the eBay member who purchased the card a full refund.  It is a shame that someone would actually authenticate/not authenticate something that might be questionable (although PSA does this as well and will charge you $250 a pop) and we as collectors have to suffer.  My question to you all is how can "authenticators" in good faith authenticate/not authenticate something that they are uncertain is real/not real (or how can you be certain something is FOR SURE real without actually witnessing the autograph)?  OR...is it that Drew really believes his authenticated items are for real?  If he believes they are real then his opinion is better than mine, but that still doesn't mean I want a buyer to be unhappy with a purchase (especially one at this price point).  So thank you for drawing this to my attention and hopefully in the future I can learn from this board.

Mike, thank you for coming here and hopefully you did offer the buyer a full refund on that awful Babe Ruth.

Here's another example of a autograph certed by Drew Max.   Below you will find a letter with the signature of Edward Kennedy that is certed by Drew Max.

I'd really like to know if Drew Max actually "forensically examined" that Edward Kennedy signature, because that particular signature of Edward Kennedy was done with a auto-pen.

And Drew Max calls himself a FDE (Forensic Document Examiner) and yet he was unable to determine that the Edward Kennedy signature was done with a Auto-Pen!!!!

Seriously, Drew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just dont understand how bad this guys is...I mean I am far from an expert...or an authenticator....but these are just so bad...especially the Xmas card....this guy is just garbage...

Comment by Mike M. on October 19, 2012 at 8:23am

I just forwarded the buyer this link so she can even further educate herself on the christmas card.  The full refund was definitely extended to her and I wouldn't blame her if she took full advantage of it.  I don't want anyone feeling like they got ripped off in any way (except myself of course in buying this in the first place obviously according to everyone on here).  I was wondering if you guys have any advice on educating myself on how to distinguish the real autographs from the "fake" autographs.  I guess I would just like to be at the point where you guys are and know right off the bat if an autograph looks bad/fishy.  Thanks for your help.  -Mike

Mike, I am very glad that you are doing the right thing.

The only advice I can give you is that it takes a long time to train your eyes to know autographs and then some.  It isn't easy, and those that sell forgeries are very aware of the fact that the majority of people who buy autographs know zero about autographs.

Mike, I have to ask you this question.

Why did you purchase that Babe Ruth?

Comment by Mike M. on October 19, 2012 at 9:00pm

Well I have to say that I purchased this card because my wife absolutely loved it.  She thought it was a wonderful sign of family, friendship and just an overall wonderful and caring moment in regards to family and history.  I can't believe someone would actually stake their reputation on something that is obviously so wrong to so many trained individuals.  So in short I bought this card for my wife and we have fallen on some hard times (like so many others)...and she agreed to let me sell it.  I thought the price was a great price for the purchaser until everyone started hounding me for selling it.  I believe the buyer is going to submit it to PSA for examination and I have been communicating with her via email to give her all this info so she doesn't possibly waste her money doing so.  My wife still loves the idea of the christmas card and it was a hard decision to sell it, but now it is just an overall disappointment and embarassment on my part.  It is hard admitting that you are possibly and probably wrong...especially when it cost so much money.  I appreciate all the help you can give in my future education.  Thanks Chris and everyone.
