MICKEY MANTLE AUTHENTIC EXEMPLARS... READ ALL ABOUT IT!

I just wanted to post these here to see what Fudd the Lowly Mantle Collector can do to help stop the flood of forgeries into the market place. The goal is that we can all start educating ourselves before we buy. To see what a beautiful signature the Mick had, and to learn to distinguish it from the obvious forgeries at first glance. Something TTA, STAT, DREW MAX, GAI GLOBAL (Baker certs) My Favorite Players Reborn (Tony Podsada) & Christopher Morales can't seem to do....at all? You will almost never see a signature in this photo album collection that would match or come close to anything that has been certed by any of those guys. Maybe you'll find 1 in a 1000 if you're lucky. To tell the difference between what an original hand signed Photo by the Mick looks like vs. an obvious Fake at first glance is easy. Give it a try. It's Fun!

As has been told many times, The Mick made more in one signing than his dad did in 1 year. He felt obligated to his fans to give them a "work of art". He did this by signing on just the right spot for the particular photograph he was presented. The size of his signature was determined by how big the sweet spot was. He knew EXACTLY how to fit his signature in so it looked perfect. A thing of beauty really. Please note that these are not all the same signature over and over, but merely a sample from my collection. What I do know is that these are consistent with the WAY Mantle signed and structured his Autograph as we know it. Good luck! FUDD

Don't be so quick to think its a fake...If you can show shots of just the Mickey and the Mantle in one photo each I think we can come to a better answer...I do agree with Mr.Zipper Iam feeling this ball is just a sloppy authentic piece...also would like to point out it is not the run of the mill fake...this is true...I feel its a rushed auto possibly while being mobbed as Mantle was practically everywhere he went...the fakes are so blatant and obvious and can been seen a mile away...but I would say its authentic...if possible please take a pic of each portion of the auto in one picture each...the authentic qualities are very telling

Love the exchange on Rhonda's Mantle ball! What looks like stops, starts and poor flow are from the texture of the cowhide. But that wasn't immediately obvious to me, either.

What I'll challenge you on, Cee Gee, is your statement that fakes are so blatant and obvious. Sure, there are the obvious "M&M" forgeries, the kind we see from GAI and Always at Auction/AAFES/etc., where the M's are all so similar. But there have to be some killer Mantle forgeries out there.

Hey Steve...I said it once and I will say it again...When I first started looking at Mantle autographs I saw so many fakes I thought the real ones were forgeries...Once I was able my self to tell from constant comparisons and of examples and the obvious fakes like the pictures you posted on your page and Marino fakes and the other run of the mill fakes I personally was able to tell like some other collectors on what to look for...everyone always looks at the "M"s in Mantle's autographs which I have to admit the forgers get close but are always off in some way or another but are never really spot on...but there are other characteristics in Mantle's signature that is often over looked by the forgers which they never ever get correct and judging by that and other things like fluidity....flow...placement...etc. with out being an expert nor an authenticator I can put all the clues together and make an educated decision based on experience...for example signature dreams Mantle's or ALL OBVIOUS FAKES were as if the forgers didn't even try...horrific letter formation...and almost all look like a child learning how to write...in that particular case those are all blatant...I will post some pics tomorrow

Cee Gee, you couldn't be more right, in that the vast majority of Mantle forgeries are no-brainers (or is that no-morals-ers?). But once you subtract that 99.5% of forgeries, there's gotta be a few people making a great living forging that fantastic half a percent.

I will also add like the pictures I posted in my GAI forum on Mantle with the 5 examples 3 of them I would say are the best fakes I have ever seen...especially in those examples I came across...there is no question I would never underestimate a forgers hand if they practice long and hard enough but as far as the Mantle fakes go...they have fooled many and will continue to fool many due to the thousands that are in the market that practically out numbered 15 to 1 in my opinion...
