MICKEY MANTLE AUTHENTIC EXEMPLARS... READ ALL ABOUT IT!

I just wanted to post these here to see what Fudd the Lowly Mantle Collector can do to help stop the flood of forgeries into the market place. The goal is that we can all start educating ourselves before we buy. To see what a beautiful signature the Mick had, and to learn to distinguish it from the obvious forgeries at first glance. Something TTA, STAT, DREW MAX, GAI GLOBAL (Baker certs) My Favorite Players Reborn (Tony Podsada) & Christopher Morales can't seem to do....at all? You will almost never see a signature in this photo album collection that would match or come close to anything that has been certed by any of those guys. Maybe you'll find 1 in a 1000 if you're lucky. To tell the difference between what an original hand signed Photo by the Mick looks like vs. an obvious Fake at first glance is easy. Give it a try. It's Fun!

As has been told many times, The Mick made more in one signing than his dad did in 1 year. He felt obligated to his fans to give them a "work of art". He did this by signing on just the right spot for the particular photograph he was presented. The size of his signature was determined by how big the sweet spot was. He knew EXACTLY how to fit his signature in so it looked perfect. A thing of beauty really. Please note that these are not all the same signature over and over, but merely a sample from my collection. What I do know is that these are consistent with the WAY Mantle signed and structured his Autograph as we know it. Good luck! FUDD

I have respect for Mike Frost & his opinions on Mantle's autograph. He put one of the first videos out that I can remember coming across doing my research years ago advertising his company. Who can forget the background music "Yesterday, When We Were Young, Mantle favorite. It was and is still very helpful to the autograph community. So are Chris Williams videos very helpful for the community.

That being said, I too think the cap in question is a forgery. I am not asking Mike to answer to it, change his mind, or argue with me. It's simply my opinion. Personally, I hate the "Man" in the signature. It looks more like the forgeries, than an authentic one. Other parts of it, I'm not crazy about either. I'm just not buying the "M" s either? They may look slightly like some authentic examples I've seen, but combined with everything else I see, I would not buy it.

How is it slander? He would have to prove the item is 100% authentic to prove slander. Nobody has to prove its fake. He has to prove the comments made are false. Since there is no definative proof Mickey Mantle signed that hat then he cannot prove the comments made are false.

Since he allows sellers to use his certificate of opinion to sell an item then his opinion can be made fun of. He sold out. This isnt the first "joke" of an opinion Ive seen from P.A.A.S. Guy is obviously no more an expert then the majority of other experts exploiting the hobby. Either that or he greedily wants his cut of the funds that go to those who are obviously confused as to what somebody's signature looks like.

I would say his cert next to that hat is hurting him more financially then a few comments here.

Well, maybe Mr. Frost can come over here and explain to us why he certed that Mickey Mantle signed hat.

Where's the slander, Mr. Frost?  Are you telling us that it's okay for you to show that photograph of you and Mickey Mantle to promote your authentication services, but it's not okay for it to be shown anywhere else?  Are you telling us, Mr. Frost, that it's okay for you to promote your authentication services on Ebay showing that photograph like below.

But it's not okay for that image to be shown when an autograph you certed is questioned?  Are you serious?

Are you telling us, Mr. Frost, that it's okay for your to promote your "Mickey Mantle Autograph Study" video, but we aren't allowed to question the autographs you authenticate.  Below is a screenshot from Mr. Frost's video.

So, Mr. Frost, because you call Mickey Mantle "A Friend" we aren't allowed to question your authentication services?  Is that what you are saying, Mr. Frost?

I will assume, Mr. Frost, that you accept money for authenticating or rejecting autographs.  In other words, I will assume that you don't authenticate or reject autographs for free.  Sorry, Mr. Frost, but if you are accepting money for your authentication services then collectors have every right to question your work when a questionable autograph that you certed surfaces.

Also, why would you demand that the P.A.A.S. images be taken down?  Are you not proud of your P.A.A.S. COA?  Are you not proud of the photo of you and Mickey Mantle shaking hands?  Or is it, Mr. Frost, that you only want those images shown when it's convenient for you?

If you aren't proud of those images, Mr. Frost, then maybe you should take down all of your Ebay auctions where you proudly show the photograph of you and Mickey Mantle shaking hands.  As a matter of fact, you show that photograph in your Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio Ebay auctions where you sell your P.A.A.S. authentication services for $35.00.  You use that photograph to promote and sell your business, don't you, Mr. Frost.

You can't have it both ways, Mr. Frost.

@Mr. Zipper:

I'm not concerned in the least about Mike Frost suing us and I never have been. I just thought I should publish his email so you folks were aware of it. It seemed the fair and responsible thing to do. I wish Mike Frost would join Live! to discuss P.A.A.S. authentication and other topics of interest to the hobby. But instead, he prefers to threaten to sue if we don't delete everything about P.A.A.S. and him.

If I was an authentication company, dealer or auction house, I'd either join in and argue my authenticity opinions, or let the hobby discuss them unfettered. They either stand up to honest criticism or they don't.

I think it time to know for sure.

The bottom line here is that there is no slander directed at Mr. Frost.  We as hobbyists have every right to question any authenticator that accepts money for examining and reviewing autographs.  That's part of the territory of accepting money for your work, Mr. Frost.

Mr. Frost's Ebay auctions, in which he uses that image of him and Mickey Mantle to promote his business are listed on Ebay every week.  He uses that image in his Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Roberto Clemente and Mike Tyson Ebay auctions.

If Mr. Frost doesn't want images of his P.A.A.S. COA to be shown on Ebay, then maybe he should inform buyers of his authentication services that they are not allowed to use an image of his COA on auction sites to sell an autograph that he certed.

I took down his photo and the mild ribbing about his haircut because he asked, not because I am concerned about empty threats. In all fairness, I would not want certain websites displaying my image. So out of simple decency, I deleted the image of Frost and Mantle I posted.

I'm curious, Mr. Frost, that photograph of you and "The Mick" shaking hands also displays a signed baseball of Mantle and a signed baseball of Derek Jeter; are they baseballs that you certed?  I'm asking because that Derek Jeter signed baseball with the inscription "04 Gold Glove" looks like a "Steiner Sports" Derek Jeter signed baseball.

Well that's one no one has to worry about.
Comment by CJCollector on December 16, 2011 at 7:47pm

Actually, Steve, my point was, is Mr. Frost using a photograph of a Derek Jeter "Steiner Sports" signed baseball to promote his authentication service?   I'm not sure if Steiner Sports would be happy about that.  All of the Derek Jeter signed baseballs that I've seen with the inscription "04 Gold Glove" are "Steiner Sports" items.
