I rely on the local papers to give me the scoop on when an author or athlete is doing an autograph signing. And, the Union-Tribune in San Diego, is hit-and-miss.

Yesterday, I was reading the paper that evening, and it said that at Camp Pendleton (the military base 10 miles north of San Diego), that racing legend Mario Andretti would be doing an autograph signing at the opening of a new Firestone auto-care. That started at noon.

He also threw out the first pitch for a softball game on the base, for the Wounded Warriors, which is an organization with Marines who suffered injuries in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Anyway...when I see things in the paper, I'll try to post them here. Those will usually be events in L.A. and San Diego, so I understand that many of you won't be able to attend. But if you have family or friends, you can always hit them up. That is...if they don't mind spending hours in a line waiting ; - )

I got his autograph through the mail one time. I sent him a note card and he sent me a signed trading card instead. Which i thought was a fair trade.

Yea, he also sends signed Hero Cards / Postcards via the mail too.

Interesting. Thanks for the updates on his signing habits. Like I said...I'm not a race fan, but I would've gone. If for any reason, to update on this site and for the magazine. And, I have no problem with a newspaper reporting the story THE NEXT DAY, and talking about the event. If I missed it or didn't know about it, oh well. My fault. But to write "today, mario andretti will be at..." well...what if you're reading the paper at 9 p.m. that night???? They obviously got the press release weeks earlier, and could've written that story the day before.
