Sone Elton John signed new CD singles not passing 3rd party authentication

FYI, in Real Autograph Collectors Club group on Facebook a person posted that Beckett and PSA are saying the Elton John signed CD single art card from the UK is not authentic. There is debate on how many he signed, may have been signed by others or used autopen.

Here is link to the discussion over there https://www.facebook.com/groups/955090951189857?multi_permalinks=47...

This comment right here by Rich is all you need to read. He is perfectly right with his assessment. They want the money.

All, the attached is Elton’s auto that I’m totally confident is authentic that I own. The art card I’ve got is just signed Elton, and frankly just looks rushed to me.

Just a bunch of my thoughts on this one:

A. From what KD posted, this was a Quick Opinion, not a full authentication. Whether or not that makes any difference, I dont know.

B. There's a discussion on here from last year about some Elton John bookplates that at least a couple of members didn't think pass muster. Richard Booth said he stopped signing his E's like this in the 70s?

C. Sometimes the artist might have plausible deniability (management does something without their knowledge), but if it were ever truly "proven" (which I think would be impossible) that these were faked, then Elton had to have known about the shenanigans. He did the photo-op with the stacks of currently questioned artcards right in front of him (both the quicker ones and the full signature in thick sharpie).

D. Ironically, the Dua artcards from last year or whenever also apparently failed TPA (PSA) approval.

E. I was wondering if this might happen with the TPAs - but it's still disappointing because I'd planned to send mine in with some other stuff to be slabbed next year.

F. If he did sign all of these, he'd be sitting there cranking through hundreds of these low-dollar things at a time (presumably thousands total). His objective would be to get them done quickly - ending up with an unusual/sped-up version of his autograph makes more sense than if they all turned out with beautiful full signatures like his in-person signing. This understandably would would make them harder to authenticate by TPAs I guess?

Right.  would he really sit at a kitchen table and crank through these?  wouldn't he have assistants sliding them to and from him?  Maybe they moved for the photo.

A few months ago I was about to buy some signed items.  I inspected 2 of them twice, one failed both checks and one failed only one of the checks. So it only shows, they are not 100% accurate as well.

I like my Elton John autograph (below). Don't have a full name autograph, but the J is kinda of joined with the last name on the cover, so it looks like it has the full name :)

Is it a J or a X?

It’s a quick ‘x’

He did the same when I met him at his book signing in Waterstones in 2019 so signed in front of me:-

these are definitely his signature the elton first name ones. been studying his habits for a long time and consider myself an expert on eltons signature. richard booth is amazing and i would assume he already said they were good too. i haven’t reviewed every one someone posts but from what i saw out there they are good .

Richard said "They are all signed by Elton, 100%." in the other thread so I am comfortable with that.

Yes indeed, I stand by that statement, they are all hand signed by Elton. He would certainly not use an autopen, nor have anybody else sign for him. Beckett have it wrong again and so do PSA!

Thanks Richard. I have always wondered about those outfits (PSA & Beckett). I have never used them, but I have heard and read about many people having something signed right in front of them and when they use these services, they say, not real. Kind of strange to me.

Good to hear, I paid $45 to get my to the US. Glad they're not fake.
