Hi all,

I purchased a set of Bob Dylan signed Mondo Scripto prints a couple of years ago from Castle Art.

The recent S&S book controversy is making me uneasy about the authenticity of the “hand-signed” signatures on the prints.

How can I tell if the signatures are autopen/are there any forum members who also may have any of these prints so we can compare signatures?

its obvious you just want attention.. Ive posted many comparisons to back up my opinions.. you have not.. we are done

Epperson is only giving his OPINION (on anything from “Abba to Zappa”) and asking a lot of money for it. We all have opinions….

Mine comes with a full quality assessment and the ability to ask questions as well! :-)

Opinions by Eric

Sure Inkinvestor! Auction houses are the companies earning a lot of money from selling autographs.I've seen several items that were pulled from rrauctions (read the Beatles forum) because his opinion was wrong (like everybody can be wrong!!). My point is that opinions are virtually useless in this case. We need proof and facts, not a statement like "" I guarantee this is genuine".
Furthermore I don't agree that his opinion is universally accepted. Many accept his opinion, but surely not everyone. The risk is that people accepted such opinions blindly. Don't forget that the true expertise is with long-term collectors who have seen more examplars than any authenticator might have, especially if that authenticator is an expert for a huge number of different celebrities.

People earning money from authenticating and selling autographs might also be subconciously of conciously biased.

You said "You underestimate his importance in this hobby". Actually I think quick opinions are a threat to the hobby. My personal view!! You don't have to agree of course.

Lets be honest - there are no reason why the crossed y cant be real.

If it was signed by another person it has to be someone close to the management, and if its not Bob then why would they make autopen copies of it? That must have been a much bigger job than just make the person originaly sign the books instead?

It just dont make sence making autopen copies of fake signatures :)

I agree but with the amount of money everyone is spending on these, all possibilities need to be explored and ruled out. I am confident now that the crossed Y versions are still Dylans signature. My only concern is if there are autopen versions out in the wild. At this point it seems to be confined to the castle art item listing. Owners of his art prints need to continue providing photos on here

This is mine from the 2020 Mondo Scripto series, bought from castle fine art. Not the best photo as it’s behind glass and I can’t get a sharper image

That rather stupid cross on the Y is a curious and questionable sudden affectation - no-one can question that. But it would take unfeasibly immense-sized testicles for a flunkey charged with the task of reproducing the Master's autograph to take it upon themselves to introduce this new feature without direction from Dylan himself. What did Dylan say - "add some kind of marker so that I can tell the difference"???

I can see 3 basic scenarios for any autopen nonsense (some variants in-between):

1. Evil Bob - "Hey Guys, I've thought of a new way in which I can shaft my loyal fans and customers" - cue Vincent Price-type manic laughter as recorded on "Thriller".

2. Couldn't-give-a-sh$t-Bob - "Well, if it's good enough for The President of the United States and Dolly Parton...."

3. Doesn't-have-a-clue Bob - Flunkey, to Bob, "We need you to sign a few of these books for charity/P.R., staff and S & S executives etc". Bob, to flunkey: "How many?". Flunkey (thinks quickly to himself, "Well I want 5, the boss will want 10, 10 for friends/realtives, Peggy in Marketing wants a couple as does Sue in Event-Management, a couple for charity auctions, couple for the lawyers, 5 for S&S executives, maybe 20 for the autopen scam"). Flunkey to Bob:  "About 50 or 60". Bob to flunkey: "FFS - ok, set it up". End of Bob´s involvement.

I am not a huge fan - have two of his albums, forced myself to attend one of his gigs a few years ago, didn't order a book - £500 for a signature sheet? I'm impartial, but my money is on scenario 3 or something like it.

In respect of the prints - these are very expensive to make and are made on very high quality, fine art paper. No artist is going to allow grunts to be handling them and potentially damaging them in order to apply machine-print signatures. Makes no sense.

um why female speaking as one?  However the cross  y sigs look very unatural and forced.

Maybe Castle Fine Art can explain in detail why they have an autopenned art print on their website???
