Hi everyone !
It feels like it’s been a long time since Ive been back to this site. Some terrible life events took me away from the hobby for a while, but I am happy to be back, and hopeful some of you can help me with your thoughts and opinions on these 2 signed photos I picked up at auction for cheap. Neither came with a COA, but I felt pretty confident about the Mantle and far more worried about the Koufax. Are my feelings correct on these? With the price so low, it won’t hurt too bad if both aren’t any good so no need to sugar coat any responses. Thank you as always for your time and effort!
Rob
Both are Operation Bullpen fake styles.
Damn! I’m usually pretty good at spotting an Operation Bullpen Mantle. Must be a bit rusty I guess. Thank you for your opinion which I respect more than any TPA !
Can you expand my knowledge Steve...what is Operation Bullpen?
A massive forgery ring from the 90s busted by the FBI. Greg Marino was the primary forger. Many dealers distributed the ring's fakes. The styles you have here were sold by a number of dealers, including the prominent NJ dealer B&J Collectibles.
The book is a great read: https://www.amazon.com/Operation-Bullpen-Biggest-Forgery-American/d...
Thank you Steve! Ordered and I'm looking forward to reading.
It's a fascinating page turner. Well written. I think I read it in one or two sittings. Let us know what you think.
Thanks Steve. A lot of us newbies got stung by this ring.
Welcome back. Unfortunately, both are common forgeries.
agree with everyone, these are common forgeries
