Hello,

I obtained three signed Hemingway books from the same collection and am trying to determine if they are legitimate.  Any opinions or direction on who I should send them to would be appreciated.

Thanks,

CJ

Thanks.  I'm wondering if the individual scans the signature and then has an ink stamp printed on a 3D printer , although I believe a stamp would produce better borders than these.  Perhaps the edges are rounded to eliminate a pooling of ink and that is why they aren't sharp.

Whatever, the nature of these things,  they are of low quality (especially the filled in letters), which may be indicative of their creation with respect to the pages still being bound during the application of reproduction. A plotter or other such device can "sign" a book. It still appears to me from this vantage that the "ink" was applied in one go - not like an Autopen. I don not believe they are stamps either. I will ask Steve to have a look.

this ebay seller has just ceated a new ebay store, called  some bits and pieces, selling the same s***

Yep, and they've sold two books in the last couple of days including another hemmingway

All of which can be reported with item numbers. Show "it" correctly and they should listen.

This is clearly an organized fraud.  I'm still waiting an a reply from ebay.  The most recent books (2)  will be reimbursed by ebay, but the one I bought in October will have to be contested through my credit card.  I was wondering how he was going to proceed.  There are now two instances of feedback that indicate the signatures were fakes.  Two more from me and that is going to hurt business.  I'm just an amateur collector and these were my prized books.  If something seems too good to be true....

I dropped you a line, but I also wanted to comment here.  Your saying that:  "I'm just an amateur collector and these were my prized books" really struck me.  I'm sorry for this experience you've had.  I hope you can eventually acquire a genuine Hemingway that can be prized.

It is very unfortunate. I have asked Steve to have a look and perhaps comment on the method of creation. I haven't seen him logged in here so I suspect he is away for the New Year..
