Hi everyone,

I bought this signed clapton album a few years ago. The seller told me that it was signed in 1986 or 1987. What do you think, is it a real one?

Hello,

I am not an expert by any means, i have 2 claptons in my collection and this honestly doesnt look like his writing. I am more familiar with his shorter signature version, so i cant really comment on that, but the signature looks very shaky to me, as if signed very slowly. From what ive learned from Clapton, he signs pretty quick and dedications arent that common. I do have one with a dedication thats certed by psa if youd like me to post, but its  his shorter version. But the signature just doesnt look right to me and seems very slowly drawn. But id wait for some others to reply before taking my word. Roger could definetly tell you in a few seconds. Good luck and i hope its real for you

I'm also not an expert, and have only one Clapton in my collection. That said, this doesn't at all look like his writing to me either.

I have to agree with the other 2. This is not Eric Clapton's handwriting.

I was able to meet him 4 times during the 90s and those autographs is different. This looks like an signature that could be written in the mid 80s. But I don't think it's real.

Sorry!

Hi,
That's a pity. I also got my doubts about it but there are still some things that make me think that's still a real one. I found some pictures of clapton autographs on google and some of the ones from 1985/86 do look familiar. Like trapper said: the autograph looks very shaky but the autograph was signed on the protection paper of the lp (I don't know how this thing is really called) I tried to write on this paper and it's hard to get a good looking word on it. So probably he had to slow down hiswriting to get a clear one. Also: some of the curves are faded so that's probably because it was written a little bit faster than when somebody really takes his time and tries to make a fake one. I'll post a picture of these curves soon.
I hope somebody can help me with it :D

If the autograph is written on a surface that is hard to write on, you usually see that the beginning of signature is different than the rest of the autograph or even that the person have to start over with the signature. That's because even if you tell the person to be careful when they write, it still will be skipings in the writing. This have happen to me a few times with glossy record sleevs.

If we look on this autograph, it looks the same all the way. So I still think that it's no good.

I also have the very strong feeling that this signature was not signed by Eric Clapton. The dedication looks different to the "best wishes" I have seen so far, and the "ap" looks like it was done wrong. Also the slow writing style throws a red flag for me.

But I could be wrong if the material he supposedly signed on really could have affected his writing.

Given the slowness and hesitation in the signature, my guess is someone traced a signature through the very thin paper. Also explains why it is signed on the sleeve rather than the album cover itself. The huge size is also very odd. Maybe they traced from a source that was not authentic.

notice how slowly this was written

Could have been copied from this one....?!?!

BINGO.

hello-- first post -- just found the forum. Anyway-- I have an autograph that I have had since around 1986 or so that my ex-wife claimed at the time she got from some radio event. It is signed on the back of WYNF bumper sticker (local now defunct rock radio station in Tampa.

what do you think?  I can't find any that look even close to this other than maybe the P and some other parts. Not worried if it was not real, just want to know. ALSO-- any idea who the other autograph might be? IIRC the ex said it was one of the DJs but why would they sign net to Clapton (unless this is just total nonsense).

I am pretty confident this is a forgery. Probably not done maliciously, just as a fun type of thing
