What's with eBay sellers overpricing?

eBay makes it incredibly easy to check past sales figures, as well as to see many times unsold pieces have been relisted. Other auctions also make this information public.

So is why are so many eBay dealers insisting that their identical (or sometimes inferior) pieces are worth 2-4x more than they actually are?

This is the second time today where I've gotten into an offer/counter-offer situation with someone who doesn't understand that they don't control the market value.

Common sense note: the existence of a bunch of high priced listings doesn't mean that your piece is worth that much--it means that people aren't willing to pay that much, or else they already would have.

do not worry, it's worth it to make too many concussions, if I find the photo chopper read here in Italy I buy it, sooner or later it happens through (just time we want ciederti 2 things about nirvana and alice in chains ok?)

The "free listing" nonsense is among the worst things eBay has done. It just encourages a zillion ridiculously priced listings. You see the same overpriced junk literally for years on end.

I guess the seller has nothing to lose and everything to gain. If some sucker bites on the crazy price, it's a huge win. If not, eBay will automatically relist it until the end of days.

Dealing with a hard headed seller can be annoying for sure. I'm not wanting to hijack this discussion but fakes are the overwhelming issue on ebay and the hobby in general. It the number one issue and it is destroying this hobby.

Items that are consigned with dealers on ebay can push prices above what their worth because the consignor wants to make money for his pocket.

How about John Lennon sellers? I have seen many, many overpriced John Lennon cuts being offered, sometimes faded ones PSA/DNA encapsulated for about $5000 to $6000.
