Autographs obtained on photographs that YOU have taken.

I have to believe that there are members of the Autograph Live forum who have taken their own photographs of celebrities, sports stars, newsmaker, etc. and then had them signed by that personality.  I thought it might be fun to see what some of those successes have been.

The photograph that I have posted is an image that I took at a Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox game which was played on June 26, 1977.  There were many notable events which occurred in this game including it being the largest regular season home crowd in Metropolitan Stadium history, Rod Carew raising his batting average to over .400, a final score of 19-12 in favor of the hometown Twins, and other highlights.  This game has gone down in Minnesota Twins lore and can be reviewed in the article attached herehttps://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/june-26-1977-adams-8-rbis-carews-5-....  I happened to attend that game and was seated in the upper-deck out in left field.  It was a hot sunny Sunday afternoon and the crowd was into this game right from the opening pitch.  One fan, apparently not too happy with his assigned seat (and certainly having enjoyed one too many beverages) decided to climb the left-field foul pole. He was eventually talked down from the pole and immediately taken away in handcuffs.  I took a photograph of the kid perched on that pole and often wondered over the years who he might be.  About a month ago, a buddy of mine who attended the game with me emailed me with a link to a Facebook story about the young man on the foul pole.  The story was posted by non-other than the perp himself!  I was able to message him on FB and share my photograph and memories of that game.  I had several 8x 10 prints made for him to sign and provided a 16 X 20 of the photograph for him to keep (for his man cave or trophy room).  It was almost shocking to finally find out (more than 42 years after taking the photograph!) who that person was that I had photographed back in the summer of 1977.

Also surprising, that young man grew up to be one of the most respected sports historians in the state of Minnesota having authored numerous books on sports history as well as being affiliated with the Twins and Timberwolves as an official scorer and online gamecaster and other sporting achievements.

It now takes its place among my favorite autographs.

I don't really do it as much as I could have with how many concerts I go to, in part due to the lack of circumstances (and decent photography) by me. But on occasion I will. I think Nina Nesbitt was the only one I requested this of this year.

Those are great shots, Rich.

I took this shot of Barry Gibb at a Bee Gees concert in Omaha, Nebraska, on December 10, 1976.  He signed it TTM several years ago.

Great topic, Marty.

One of my favorite bands is Luna, an indie rock quartet from NY. On August 1, 2001, they played the World Trade Center Plaza where I took this photo. I later had it printed with white margins at the top and bottom so they could sign it.

Steve, that's a great idea having the image printed with the white borders.

White borders make for great contrast potential - although I did not take this myself I show it:

Two pictures that I have taken and also got signed. Phil Collen (Def Leppard) and the late Ronnie James Dio.

I saw Ronnie James Dio in the 80s on the Sacred Heart Tour and it's still my favorite concert that I've ever been to and I don't expect that to change. Holy Diver is in my top three favorite albums of all times. I would have sacrificed body parts back in the day to have met him in person.

Great stuff!

I also have a photo of RJD with me that was later signed by RJD. And a phot of me with a member of Def Leppard, not Collen though but Rick Allen.

BITD I got pics with some rock stars before the show, handed them in for one hour printing and got them signed when they were checking out from the hotel or at the airport the next day. Some I remember are Iron Maiden (Dave, Nicko), Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Alice Cooper and Randy Castillo and Zakk Wylde from Ozzy's 90s band.

Here's a photo I took at the Kennedy Space Center, signed by astronaut Jack Lousma.

I collect mainly golf autographs and I like to get a selfie with a player. I then have 8x10s made and get those signed to add to my collection. I have around 70 done so far.

These are from earlier this month. All major winners and NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young, who plays in the Pro Am tournaments sometimes.

Great topic! I wish we had more fun topics like this, instead of everybody always wanting to know if their autograph is real !!!!

I had a friend that took a great photo of Todd Rundgren on stage (in the first Ringo Starr All Star Band). I had him sign it, and he loved the photo (Joe Walsh was in the background doing an Energizer Bunny bit, so it was funny). I think he wanted a copy of the photo. Then he accidentally signed it Ringo (which to me, makes it cooler).

Since I'm a journalist, I've had a lot of photos taken with people, although I don't normally care about photos, just autographs. But when I did a cover story on Jerry Coleman (former Major Leaguer, who was a long time broadcaster for the Padres), I had him sign the cover of that story. I think I've done that a few times with things I've written about them, but not often.

And on the subject of photos and autographs, I always give this advice to people that collect. With SO MANY stars not liking the ebay aspect of autographs, if you get something signed, it is really bad form (and turns them off), if you then want a photo with them (especially if you're holding the item). They feel like you're doing that for proof, making it easier to sell.
