I don't know how I missed this treasure before. I don't know how it passed PSA, but according to Lee it has. This is the first item like this I've ever seen Coach's Corner offer with PSA/DNA

How can they state this is PSA/DNA when there is no way it could be?

You're right Mr. Farrell, but where is the PSA/DNA certification paper to go along with their Ruth in LOT 2? I'm sure Joe Orlando would be very interested in seeing that!

Dom,

The Coach's Corner listing says it has a PSA/DNA Auction LOA, from an unnamed auction in 2005. Even with a named auction, you'd have to go back to the auction house to ask for a picture of the ball, because auction LOAs generally don't have photos. It's a common scam. And if it had a PSA why would anyone have sent it to a forensic document examiner too?

Here's a link to the listing: http://myccsa.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=babe%20ruth

Thanks Mr. Cyrkin. Leave it to those crooks over there at Coach's Corner to re-word & twist the truth around to steal somebody's money

I haven't had the privilege of working with auction-houses would you mind informing me of how they try to scam people so I don't get screwed?

Also, if Coach's Corner claims an item comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA isn't it REQUIRED to come with a real LOA from that authenticator? That would be false advertising and wouldn't they be subject to getting in trouble? Or would it be the person who passed on the item with a fake LOA from PSA? I have no idea how that all works.

Thanks Steve

Not Steve, but-

Some secondary sellers will take a valid auction LOA and photoshop their item and rewrite the description. Usually the key is that the date of the auction or the lot number is not listed in order for you to contact the auction house and verify. The small print of legitimate auction LOAs also states that one has 45-90 days usually to submit it from the close of the auction. Most are well past that time frame.

I would imagine that Coach's Corner would take the position that it was an item that was consigned to them and they depended on the consignor to be accurate. It allows them to try and defer the blame.

Other folks on here may want to add to or correct what I have written.

CC has no good intentions. Only intention they have is to STEALLLL Money!!!

This ball looks just like many of "replica" vintage-looking Ruth balls that are sold for about $50-$70 on eBay by reputable sellers, who tell you right off the bat that it may look old and real, but it's not. It's hard to believe that so many bids have been placed, and it's already over $2,000. The thing is, so many of us want to believe it's the real deal. I've been that way with autopen JFKs for cheap. I'm thinking, "Well...it may actually be authentic. I'm not sure it's autopened. It may be the real deal." That's what I want to believe anyway.
