I have a program from a 1964 Nation wide tour (The Beatles and Mary Wells) Page 1 inside the cover includes autographs from each of the four.  I would like a better idea about them before I invest any money for an "Official Authentication" Here is the scan.

Jim,

Ask Epperson. Like Ballroom, I didn't think they were real when you posted them, no matter the source. I am so sorry you're dealing with this. The criminals in the autograph field are plentiful and a brazen bunch. We deal with them all the time.

I shot an email off to Epperson last night.  I think that I am already dreading the bad news.  Tried to find some kind of current contact information for Joe Long seems like the guy is vapor.

I actually recognized them before you posted the COA. That said, Roger Epperson will indeed give you an accurate opinion of these signatures.

Snafu!

Well sadly there it is Mr. Epperson says "These are known as Joe Long forgeries." Probably the best $15 bucks I've spent in a long time.

Now with the truth out there I'm looking for Joe Long but this guy seems to have vanished, anyone have a clue where to find this thief?

Ask Roger if he knows about how old he is and his brother's name. He might be #2 on this list based on the Hellertown address history:

Joe Long strikes again...I didn't like the looks of them before I saw his name!!!

The man is a legend...for all the wrong reasons!!!

Joe made a ton of money selling forgeries.

Well if I can find him through the long arm of the law it is my intention to file charges against him.  I doubt I'll see any of my money, but I might be able to bring some misery to his life.

I hope you do. Please keep us up on it. Here's an article on Joe Long and his music memorabilia pursuits from 1995 in the local, Allentown-area newspaper. Maybe that will help you locate him:

I dealt with Joe Long when he was releasing catalogs and purchased good and bad from him. I've described him here previously as a classic example of a sociopath.

Part of the problem that you will have in pursuing Joe Long is that numerous "top shelf" autograph dealers were selling his stuff. Once they found out that they had been selling Joe Long forgeries, which in some cases they must have been purchasing directly from him, they became complicit by not sharing this revelation with their customers. I guess one can understand the dent it would have made in dealers' pocketbooks if they were to contact their customers to say, "Sorry, but I just found out that the Beatles (Who, Zeppelin, etc.) autograph I sold you for several grand is worthless. Since our items come with a lifetime warranty, here's your money back." Many must have known, but they ignored it.

My guess is that Joe Long isn't worth enough money now to go after. You'll notice that his "Statement of Authenticity" gives only a 7 day return privilege, and there are probably statues of limitations when it comes to this type of criminal activity. Bottom line is that he was involved in criminal activity, so if you, or anyone else, is interested in more info on him I have plenty and can share it with you. This includes correspondence, catalogs, examples, etc.
