We're considering adding an eBay autograph and memorabilia forum, or group, to Autograph Magazine Live! where members can discuss everything from safe buying, to individual buyers and sellers, to discussing particular pieces you're interested in.

Is that something you'd be interested in? If so, what would you like to see in it, would you use it often, and do you have any ideas how you'd like it to work, including rules, etc.

Please tell us your ideas in this forum. We can implement it as early as April 1.

It you're not a member of Autograph Magazine Live! you'll need to join to comment. It's free!

I think that a forum of this nature would be excellent ...there are too many suspicious looking autographs .. some "too good to be true" for the price, etc .. it's a very viable way of alerting Novice and Seasoned buyers, collectors, dealers-sellers, etc about dubious autograph memorabilia and their sellers and also inform about trusted dealers-sellers. The forum should not become a place for "witch-hunting" or name calling, etc .... unless all the facts/evidence are verifiable .... in lieu of slander.
This is an excellent Idea !!
Count me in. I think this is a great idea!
Is that something you'd be interested in? - Fantastic idea. This forum would be one of the most popular I would think.

If so, what would you like to see in it, would you use it often, and do you have any ideas how you'd like it to work, including rules, etc. - I'd like to see information on reputable autograph dealers on eBay. This could be your multi-million dollar enterprise or it could be the eBay store of the guy you always see getting autographs at the baseball game. As long as you KNOW it's coming from a legit person and that the autographs are legit.

- I'd also like to see a spot to post auction items and ask for opinions on the authenticity of the item. This could include comments on the seller (any past history, positive or negative) and comments on opinions of the authenticity of the item. Not a professional PSA-DNA quick opinion (which in itself is a good idea), but a collector to collector discussion on the opinions of the item.

- How about a running list of eBay dealers who are known to sell authentic items? Much like the wonderful list on page 55 of the April issue, a list of "approved" eBay dealers would be fantastic. Again, not just the BIG businesses, but even the 10-20 items listed guys that you see around town but whom you know are selling legit items. You could add and subtract from the list as information is posted regarding the authenticity of the items.
I think this is a great idea. There are people in various areas of the hobby who, though they are not officially authenticators, know forged autographs when they see them, especially in their specialized area of the hobby. For instance, I can spot fake golf autographs right away. It is disheartening to see all the forgeries on ebay, and I think it would be worth it for ebay to do something about it. When I first started collecting, I lost thousands of dollars to forgeries on ebay. I'm embarrased to say I was too trusting and didn't have a clue that ebay had so many forged items on there. It is a real dilemma. I hope this forum can be a very professional and reliable source for people to go to.
That's what we want to do--make it professional and reliable. The problem, of course, is all of the flamers and gremlins who want to destroy legit forums, eBay members and other people in the hobby.

We know the forum will be a handful to manage and we'll get even more threats of lawsuits and such than we get already, so we need to really think about the rules. And, of course, anyone will be allowed to rebut negative comments against them. In fact, we'll invite them to.

Karen, what do you think of these golf autographs?

Hi Steve, let's put it this way. I would never buy any golf items from www.starmarks.net. Also one thing that is a red flag for me is when a seller is critical about PSA/DNA authentication, as the owner of this site is. If you are selling authentic autographs, you should not be afraid of the authentication companies like PSA/DNA. Karen
the more i play on ebay, the more i want this forum to begin!! I think it will create a flood of participation on autograph live.
This is, of course, a great idea. But the main problem that we face is getting those people who continuously buy forgeries to read forums like this or blogs or my videos. Those people do not do any type of research, so how do we direct them to places of education like this particular forum? That's the difficult part. Also, when you attempt to inform those people that they are buying forgeries, they all get very defensive. They think that because an autograph item is accompanied by a COA and hologram that the autograph they bought must be authentic. It's unfortunate that these types of buyers have no common sense when it comes to autograph purchasing.
True. It's definitely a challenge.
absolutely i would really enjoying commenting, sharing my personal experiences, etc.
in fact i recently found an ebay seller with genuine Britney autographs, Sarah Palin, Keith Urban. big names...
fantastic idea Mr. Cyrkin =)
Cannot agree more with this idea. Honest sellers will not be afraid at all for collectors' like myself to exchange ideas and experiences about any dealer.

I've loved this hobby for 22 years. I will do anything to keep bad dealers from taking money from hard working people.

Ebay has lots of shady people (dealers) that need to be removed and if at all possible prosecuted.

Happy Collecting
