Janis Joplin Encapsulated Words From a Cut Up Handwritten Letter

A 5-page Janis Joplin letter was cut up and issued as encapsulated handwritten words. I’ve seen that done with presidential writing, but I don’t recall seeing it happen with a letter from a music artist. That said, her letters aren’t that rare, as a number of them to her boyfriend were sold at auction a while back. So far, the word “Of” sold on eBay for $41. I don’t know the cost to encapsulate, but at that rate the cut up letter will sell for substantially more than it would have in its original state. What do you think?

I find this practice to be deeply objectionable, unless the source document is heavily damaged to begin with.

Agreed.

Also agree but sadly if letters sell for a LOT more money this way this practice will continue.

Unfortunately, perfectly good Washington and Lincoln documents and letters have fallen victim to this practice.

So have Hiroshima/Nagasaki blast artifacts and Cunard's R.M.S. Mauretania and WSL Olympic wood moldings. Same for Titanic :-(

Like the hatchet job done on that Jackie Gleason postcard it still gives me nightmares.

Agreed, though this is worse. No context on that PC. Along with the postal cancel placing location & time.

Meaningless, destructive. Never for me for 41 cents.

Who slabbed this and made up the artwork/photo?

It's sad to even see this.

SportsCards.com. There are several of them for sale on eBay.

“Think” sold for $60. These are from the 2025 Jersey Fusion Americana Edition Box
