Hi Tom

Was this recently on eBay? It looks familiar.
It was. My buyer says he wants to back out and I'm now wanting to make sure it stands up.

Thanks for the info, Tom. There has been so much deceit on eBay with copies, fish stories, etc., we are just being a bit cautious here.

It's not the textbook, classic style seen on the 70s and 80s white space suit portraits. And inexperienced collectors are not aware his signature evolved significantly through the years.

In my opinion, your item is authentic. Formation looks good. The pen type and certain signature characteristics are consistent with a 1990s mail signature. It all adds up.

What a funny story this guy made up.... Who buys a science book at a yard sale and finds a forged neil armstrong signed index card inside? LOL

Gone!!!

Looks like all this guy does is steal other peoples photo's, copies them and sells the reproductions at 75% of the actual value of a legit signature. Anything to avoid having to make an honest living.

I can't believe EBAY doesn't shut him down.

Bottom feeders. You'd think eBay would have a policy against stealing other users images, but apparently not. Some of the scans they are using were not high resolution to begin with, so the quality of the print must be poor.

This is a good argument for a) not posting high res scans anywhere, and/or b) watermarking everything.

eBay has lots of policies like that but monitoring violations are the responsibility of the verified rights owner under the VeRO program.

The policy on Image copying is quite clear;

Policy overview

eBay members are not allowed to use images—including photos and other pictures—or text they didn't create themselves. Exceptions to this policy would be if they are authorized to do so by the owner, its agent, or the law.

The latter might include Vero but one doesn't have to be a Vero or even in the Vero program to take action.

The following is not allowed and can be reported via the EMR, An Other EBAYer, (or a Vero for that matter)...

Photos and text from other eBay users

Photos and text copied from websites

Scans from catalogs or advertisements

You're right...being part of the VeRO program isn't required. But most rights owners who regularly report violations use VeRO because it's so much more efficient.
