Autographed Nascar Trading Cards

Not sure if this is where I should post this or not, but I do have a lot of autographed Nascar trading cards that were obtained in person at Michigan Speedway in the early to mid-90's. I'm open to…Continue

A few tidbits from Indy...

Danica was very tough, but not impossible. Her Chevy Q&A was prefaced with a "do not ask for an autograph or a selfie" warning from the emcees. After it was over, three big guys fanned out from the stage exit to shield Danica from the riff-raff. Seeing the guards early, I took the other way around the stage and Danica was already in her golf cart, speeding away. Classy. She did sign a few things here and there, but was very strict with her signing habits. Nice to see she hasn't changed from the last time I got her in 2011...

The other drivers were very accommodating and friendly...I even got Hildebrand to laugh about his autograph line from the 2017 500 when he had Sato and Fernando Alonso. He joked that he signed more autographs in that one hour than in half of the other driver sessions that year.

as also got to chat with other former drivers as well, Buddy Rice, Ana Beatriz, Max Papis, even Chip Ganassi as well.

I cannot stress enough that every race fan, even if you don't acre for open-wheelers, needs to go to Indy in May at least once in their lives.

The haul from Indy during the Month of May was immense...

First was practice day for the Indy GP. Got 16 of the 24 drivers for the GP...Newgarden, Power, Helio, Pagenaud, Bourdais,Zachary Claman Demelo, Kanaan,Matt Leist, RHR, Marco, Jordan King, and Spencer Pigot from the autograph session...Rahal, Hinch, and Robert Wickens getting out of the autograph session, and Dixon while walking among the haulers. I also got Rick Mears at the Penske hauler on his biography and Al Unser Jr. at the Chevy display for his team's Q&A. Good start to the month.

On Carb Day, I got six drivers during autograph sessions...Sage Karam and James Davison after their separate Chevy Q&As (came close on getting Kyle Kaiser, but he had no handouts), Conor Daly, Claman Demelo, Pippa Mann, and Stefan Wilson at the Donate Life autograph session, and Daly and ZCD (again) at the Honda autograph session. I was also lucky enough to get Dario Franchitti on an old handout walking to the garages. But the big prize was the signed Honda poster of the 2018 drivers. The only full-time driver that did not sign it was Scott Dixon.

But I did the best on Legends Day. First, I got a wristband for the second Legends autograph session for former Indy 500 drivers. After getting the wristband, I got my first line for the full field signing. I got Zach Veach, Oriol Servia and JR Hildebrand and headed to my second line. I got Gabby Chaves, Carlos Munoz, and Max Chilton. The next table to us was Takuma Sato, Kaiser, and Wickens. Kaiser saw me and handed one of his handouts to his handler, who went up to me and handed it to me. BIG THUMBS UP!!! He was in a very busy line (500 winners' lines are longer than most, and Sato's was crazy long) and still remembered me!

After I got that line, I hit another quick line...Karam, Wilson, and Davison (again.) With twenty minutes left, I tried my luck at one last line. Thanks to a light rain to scamper a few fans away, I was able to get Daly, Jack Harvey, and Alex Rossi just before the session was over.

In all, I got 27/33 drivers in the field...and 29/35 drivers attempting to make the race. But I was not done...

I got to the Honda display for the Mario Andretti signing. I got a signed handout and a Racer magazine from last year. I also picked up a few signed trading cards of Dale Coyne and Buddy Lazier walking through the garage to the museum's photo store for the Legends session.

The haul from the Legends session was good...signed Kenny Brack photo and 1999 500 program (year he won the 500), signed Janet Guthrie autobiography (first woman to race at Indy), 5 signatures on my go-to generic 500 photo, and 8 signed generic handouts from former Indy 500 racers. The big surprise was AL Unser Jr. He was an unannounced addition, so no one hand anything for him for the session. Bummer.

After the final session, I left for Graham Rahal meet and greet at Advance Auto Parts. He was there with his wife, NHRA driver Courtney Force. Four more handouts (two each by Graham and Courtney) for my collection and my old 2010 Honda poster, previously signed by 30 other drivers, got signed by Graham. I left Indy with arguably the best haul I ever had outside of the NHRA events.

Michigan turned out to be pretty awesome.  I ended up with around 40 new autos.  The only ones not signing outside of the garage area were Johnson, McMurray, Kurt Busch, Hamlin and Austin Dillon.  Here's a sampling of what I got:

I'm going to Michigan for the first time this June.  Does anyone have any suggestions where the best place for autographs is?  I picked up the regular pit pass for the weekend.

Here's a couple of the Daniel Suarez autographs I got last night at the Milwaukee Auto Show.
