Autographed Rock T-Shirts -- The Doors and Queen Edition

I just read in the paper this morning that Guy Webster died. Most of you won’t know that name. He was a great rock photographer. He did The Doors first album. He did the photo of the Mamas & Papas that has them all in the bathtub (he said they were all so stoned, it was even hard to do that). Dunhill record label producer…

Golf with Phil Mickelson, or film with Larry David

Here in San Diego, I found out about an interesting charity item. Charitybuzz.com has a listing for a group of three to play golf with Phil Mickelson, at his home course in Rancho Santa Fe. A few days ago, the bid was over $100,000. Oh, in case you think that’s a bit pricey, keep this in mind -- it includes lunch.

The charity is…

Michael Jordan Autographed Shoes Break Record -- and I could've owned them !

I met Michael Jordan a few times. He was never very nice. At the time, I was a sports reporter for a radio station. On the first occasion, I just did a quick interview with him. There were other reporters waiting to get quotes or sound bites, and he was there with the “Dream Team.” It was the first time the United States allowed NBA players to join the Olympic team, and they had a great one: Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, to name a…

The Dead Weather -- Thoughts on Jack White during the rain storms in California

I've talked before about my love of Jack White and The White Stripes. They were an amazing band. And since I was a fan in the early days when they played smaller clubs, I got lots and lots of stuff signed. Even as they got bigger, I'd buy the current CD and get them to sign it before and after shows (of course, the crowds of fans got bigger and it was a little harder).…

Easy Rider Motorcycle and the Craziest Ride Someone Took to Win a Contest

I found a few interesting items happening this week that I thought I’d write about. Now, as a movie critic I have to say – I love collecting movie memorabilia. Having this in my collection would be great, despite the fact that I thought it was a crappy and overrated movie. It’s the Captain America chopper that was customized for “Easy Rider.”

Profiles in History…

An Autograph From a True Hero

It’s funny how when you live in a city with somebody famous, you take them for granted. For autograph collectors, you probably got their autograph at one point, but you see them at so many functions you lose interest.

Here in San Diego, there are many people that are huge all over the world, but I’m at many events with. Those would include sports Hall of Famers like Bill…

A Bar Room Brawl -- All for an Autograph

Often times, people tell me how lucky I am that I get to interview movie stars as part of my job as a film critic. Usually I’m just interviewing them over the phone, but it is fun when they do the press junket and you get 15 minutes with them.

One writer talked about being invited to George Clooney’s house to interview him, and loving the autographed photos he had on the…
