Adolf Hitler Autograph Discussion: Should we allow them here?

Hi guys. I bought an autograph about 10 years ago, made by Adolf Hitler in 1935 in Munich on a postcard and I'm thinking about selling. Does anyone have a clue if it is genuine? Have mailed around questions to different pages but get no good answers. / Marcus

There are several smudge spots if you look closely

I don't think he posted how much he paid for it. Or did I miss that?

I know of 3 signed AH items that sold for $3K at auction only last year

And parts of the handwriting do match his hand from examples I have seen.

It could be a stamp or a forgery or the real deal? I don't have anywhere near the expertise to make that judgement. As i stated, this would need to be seen and inspected in person I would think.

I also stated that it doesn't quite fit in w/ 1935 examples, although it is close-ish. The examples I posted on page one can be used for comparison.

Proving it's authentic and then finding a buyer are going to be difficult

The price paid was mentioned on the first page of this thread, just before Steve raised posed his question about posting such items.

Were the three sold AH items photos of this "quality" (I put this in inverted commas as I mean it just in the sense of photographic quality and autograph placement)?

I doubt very much that the signature is a secretarial or fake, even if it doesn't quite fit other 1935 examples, but I have a feeling that it may well be printed or stamped. Only the "original poster" would be able to say if it looks like ink on paper - and maybe then only after taking the card out of the frame.

He did not post what he paid for the item. On page 1 he was asking me what might be the selling value. To which I gave the answer based on the items sold at auction. Granted, they were signed documents and not a photograph. Personally I feel a document is worth more but I know others may disagree. Sorry, it was 2 documents, not 3 that sold at auction for 3k

Also, if I can see ink smudges, then it can't be a print. Look more closely and the smudges are easy to see.

I've never studied his studied his signature but you'd looks like an obvious stamp to me.

I see it more clearly now.

The signature does indeed look like a stamp

Thanks for weighing in Steve as I know it must have caused you some discomfort.

One more thought, I doubt very much that Hitler would have signed many "trivial" items like publicity postcards. At this stage of his "career" he would have probably signed mainly documents or large studio photographs.

He seems to have had a personal photographer and we know Hitler was a narcissist. So it could be plausible he handed out signed photo's or postcards of himself. Or maybe you are right and they could have just been stamped.

I find it difficult to believe that people were asking for his autograph.

I'm just guessing of course.

I don't delve much into this stuff.

I haven't looked into his signing habits. I've seen large signed photos, documents, and books. I don't recall seeing casual signatures.

He might've sgd quite a bit of photos in the 30s when he flew around Germany. There was a little boy who got his autograph in pencil in a pad when he came out of the airplane , there's footage in docus of it.

"I find it difficult to believe that people were asking for his autograph"

Actually I think quite a few germans wanted his autograph as he was (in the 30s) seen as a saviour. It was also common to give Mein Kampf away as a wedding present.

I spose I can buy that.

He was definitely seen as a savoir, and that's because he actually did save the country from empoverishment. Until he went loopy that is.

I've seen a Mein Kempf "wedding present"edition at auction.

There are currently a couple signed photo's at auction right now. I'd like to post them, but out of respect to Steve and others, I'll wait for the private group to start.

Any idea when this might happen Steve?

There's now a private group for autographs related to folks like Hitler, Charles Manson, Pol Pot, Jeffrey Dahmer, etc.: Tyrants & Maniacs.

No...not Trump.

I thought we'd have to wait until the new site was online but it turns out that private group content can be excluded from "Latest Activity" on the home page.

Knock 'em dead.
