Authenticity is Everything
Your Display Opinions Desired - David Bowie! 1976
Hello folks, looking for opinions. I've been fiddling with this for some time now. I think I have it. I could go about who took which photo when and all the stuff I love to talk about, but it really comes down to these images below. All I will say is the b/w photo is a 2010 RCA reprint (Nov. 1975 originals hard to find) and the color still is original. Also, with the color variation I tried to tie everything together with the colors inside the ship and for the thin mat I sampled his hair and the ink combined. Thank you!
PS - These were to be in scale, to themselves anyway, but I think I got it a bit wrong...

Eric, they both look nice and are handsome pieces. The "decoration" around the signature should always be based on YOUR personal taste. Those of us who mat pieces should always stick with what our eyes see. We can't please everyone.
Honestly, it's the signature that sells; or should. And this signature is splendid indeed.

If I may add more to my opinion now that I have a moment. For me, I want to see Bowie’s face along with the sig. The color photograph is about the other guy as much as Bowie (sorry, not familiar with the movie - I know, shame on me, I do love the man’s music!)
Simple, classic, timeless is the B+W IMHO
And to echo Joe, if the price is right, Id not hesitate to buy either one. Nice job!

If it's going to be a "for sale" item, then the obvious choice is the B&W because ... well... you already know why.
It's really a no brainer how to match this sig for sale purposes.The tougher question is, "how much are you going to ask for it?"

It is not for sale. This is my keeper, along with the 1980 Gorman SP. The rest have been sold - perhaps 12? The only double I have at this point. I justify it as one being a film actor and the other a rock god. ;)

In that case.... here's a challenge for you
Try to blend the 3 items together somehow (triptych)
You have the technology... now you need that special artistic ability
Maybe try a light smokey grey mat color.
Keep the orange borders and bind it with a colored frame (not black or white)

Remember this I designed? Custom Yellow Submarine mat for 2 very oddly placed sigs on a single cut with a tear. Maybe something like...hmm.

That's a very flavorful Bowie sig and very unique.... give it the design to enhance it...
get crazy.... you know Bowie himself would go for it ;)
put your mind back in 1976 and go Starman :-)
