Hi everybody!

Is there someone who knows those guys?

https://www.autographauctions.eu/

They have literally tons of signed pictures and documents from almost everybody in their imminent auctions. Surely the majority of them are real (historical documents, inscribed pictures), bur are all of them?

Some examples:

Frank Sinatra

Audrey Hepburn - Gregory Peck

Grace Kelly

Charlton Heston

Thanks for your help!

I have had both good and bad experiences.  I think you can trust their historical documents but I have bought several fairly modern items from them which have failed TPA (Jack Nicholson, for example) and I have submitted others for advance TPA review before buying (e.g. Scarlett Johansson) which also failed.

TPA is not infallible, though.  I have had items failed by ACOA which were authentic and items authenticated by JSA which are not!

Thanks for having shared your experience!

some of their stuff is good and as the other person said some of it is not.  They are difficult to deal with if there is a problem.  They had a branch in UK which went into liquidation and there were many problems there as well

They did give me a refund after I complained about a failed item but it was grudging and not a pleasant exchange.

Here’s a recent discussion about an item from this auction house:

https://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/hendrix-signed-albu...

I also think Richard, the owner/manager, is much more experienced in historical autographs. I bought a couple of dud Beatles items that he had given a blessing to when they were autioned at Trever Vennett-Smith back in around 2000 and I don't think he has improved greatly on pop and rock since then. Film and television I'm not so sure about. In any event, I think it is scandalous to auction items with estimates of EUR 20,000 - 30,000 (e.g. Hendrix and Monroe in the current auction) without having them looked at by authenticators with the relevant expertise.

Is Richard any longer with them?  I think he retired at some point in the years since the firm became based in Spain from the UK.

Unless he has a twin he is very much still there. Admittedly, I last saw him in the flesh in 2000 or so and he, like me, is wearing larger clothes sizes now but I'm sure it's him I've been watching during the on-line auction broadcasts.

Could well be.  It's been years since I've corresponded with him personally regarding purchasing autographs.  I have had good experiences with IAA over the years...but I have also done my homework for the reasons mentioned in this thread.  The need to do so even more so in recent years with entertainment autographs.

First of all, I don't know these people or the shop. I just looked at the many autographs here by Elvis Presley. Well, my humble opinion is that almost all Elvis autographs are not real. I wouldn't buy or even want any of these.
BUT: That doesn't mean that all the other autographs in this shop aren't real either.

As I said before, that's just my opinion. If you have the time before you buy an autograph, better post it here to get as many opinions as possible. Good luck.

I totally agree with Karsten. A great proportion of the authographs IAA sell are probably genuine, particularly the historical ones, but you cannot place any reliance on the auctioneer's quality control procedures. You won't get a complete bargain at such a specialist auction - unless something isn't real - so there is no point in trying to keep things to yourself. Post anything you are thinking of bidding on here unless you really know your stuff.

After the four listed items for opinions…..

I do not care about the sticker or who is selling.

This site is about the ink, isn't it?

I like the Heston ink. IMHO

If you like any of the others, throw down an exemplar…..waiting….then everyone can discuss and show an exemplar and have opinions.

I like to see the homework in ink, not words.
