Indeed.  Whoever added that made a mistake  or several.  Its very rarely used in conversation in uk

The person trying to defend the Fleetwood signatures is an idiot. Here's why:

-- First, they look bad. Anybody that knows autographs well can tell you that.

-- Second, you NEVER have a source that you can completely trust. Unless you saw it signed yourself.

I had BB King's daughter, his actually daughter -- take my two albums for him to sign. Guess what? When she gave them back to me (she was in Las Vegas living at the time), the signatures weren't real.

I've heard stories of kids giving baseballs to a ball boy, that took them into the dugout, and one person wrote all the signatures of the players.

I was backstage at Ringo. Had passes. Guy doing security in the parking lot had the last name McCartney on his name badge. His real name. He begged me for a signature. I was lucky to get a Ringo for myself (he doesn't sign, but this was back when he still did). As we were walking back to the car my buddy said "Give me the tour program" and he wrote "McCartney, thank you for your service, Ringo". And he gave it to this guy, who was thrilled. Guess what? He's going to say he got it from somebody that was backstage and met Ringo (which is true), and that he was working the concert venue on the military base (also true), but the signature is not real.

See how a "reliable" source can actually not be all that reliable? (side note: I told my friend I was against doing it, and his argument was "We made this 25 year old service man happy, and if he ever tries to sell it, I don't care if he finds out it's fake. I hate autograph dealers."

+1 -- you can have all the "provenance" in the world, and it still might be a fake. Anyone who's frequented this site for more than three months has likely seen (at the risk of sounding like a broken record) any of the topics where a collector has sworn up and down, even arguing with people on this site (who'd I'd trust any day of the week) that their item was legitimate, even when the OPs admit the piece they wanted signed was taken out of their hands/out of sight for several minutes.

Buyer beware, caveat emptor. I had books in my possession where I knew the exact daisy-chain of ownership right down from the signing ceremony to my hands, and it was still found to be a fake. Don't presume anything unless you see it witnessed/photographed by your own eyes. This is why I spent the last five years getting a certain author to sign stuff for me in-person -- there's now a cottage industry of fakes out there, and people are blindly buying into it.

Exactly what Josh said!

Ok, so I will now explain the entire story, so everyone here can see it and know what is going on.

Yesterday, around lunch time, I received an offer on Ebay for one of my items. I counter offered a couple of times, until the buyer and I reached a mutually agreed price. The item was the very program which started this post, a 1988 Fleetwood Mac European tour program, signed by 7 members of the band. The buyer sent a message asking if a third party LOA was included. I messaged him back, letting him know that we provide our own lifetime LOA, but that it did not include any kind of TPA. I also let him know that we guaranteed the item to pass TPA or he could get a full refund (upon receipt of the item being returned). He then sent a message saying the item was deemed to be a fraudulent piece and not to ship until he had someone look at it. Within 3 minutes he sent another message saying this was a "piece of fraud" and he wanted a full refund. I immediately went in and cancelled the transaction and let him know it had been cancelled. A few minutes later I tried to call him, as eBay provides the phone number of the buyer in the event that buyers and sellers need to communicate any details. I really just wanted to know who had "deemed the item to be fake" for my own personal knowledge. When I tried to call, he did not answer, and I did not leave any kind of message. A little over an hour later, I received a call back. First he said, that 6 different "experts" (from an online post) had told him it was fake, and that he had talked to Stevie Nicks manager who told him it was fake. Before I could say a word in response, he just started yelling at me, using foul language, accusing me of being a crook and a fraud, and so on. I let him go on for a couple of minutes, and finally said, ok I've listened to you, now you're gonna to listen to me. And I will admit, I lost my cool and really let him have it. But the entire time I was talking, he was trying to yell over me and would not let me get a word in edgewise. So really, there was no conversation. It was just this guy verbally assaulting me without listening to anything I had to say. So a little while after this, I go online to look for the post and find it right here on Autographs Live. I posted an image of the other identical Fleetwood Mac progrgram which I acquired from the same source, and asked "what about this one?". His response was, why did you try to sell me the fake one? When I responded that I owned both programs and that they were both from the same source, he went in and removed his response. Since then, several others have chimed in with their "opinions", with one even stating that he "hates autograph dealers". Boy, talk about bias! I understand there are some bad guys out there selling fake items. But just because someone has a lot of items for sale without TPA, does not automatically make them one of the bad guys. There are plenty of very respected, honest dealers, without TPA, whose items are, in many cases, better than the ones that are slabbed with TPA.

Now, I understand this site serves a very useful and needed service to help oust fake dealers and those who may not know their items are fake. But this does not apply to me in any way. I have been dealing in autographs for more than 30 years (25 on a professional level), and do not, have not, or would not ever deal in anything that I do not know for certain is 100% authentic. I could go into the specifics of the provenance for the items I'm selling, and explain why I'm able say what I say without any hesitation or reservation whatsoever. But what I will say is that, The individual who I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing and dealing with (for the last 4 1/2 years), is one of the finest people I have known in my lifetime. The collection these programs came from was (at one time) probably one of the largest in the world (on the scale of 30K + items). A large portion of the collection was sold on eBay between 2021 and 2024 (with an impeccable record). Other parts of the collection were sold through Embassy International Auction House. Beginning in early 2021, I was fortunate enough to develop a close bond of trust and friendship with the daughter of the individual who acquired the collection over her lifetime. And the only reason she chose to deal with me directly, was because of people (like this "Mick Jones"), who kept harassing her and trying to intimidate her and ultimately run her off. But when you have a private collection on this scale come onto the market, rarely are any of the items in the collection questioned, because the bulk of the collection is sufficient to satisfy even the most distinguished auction houses who routinely sell off these kinds of large collections.

Now, I will say about the program which started this post, if I were looking at it and did not know where it came from, or anything about the individual selling it, I would most likely pass on it. But it is only because of the ballpoint pen that was used, causing the signatures to seem forced, which they were because of the laminate surface of the program. If you've made it this far, thank you for taking time to read this and for keeping an open mind. Not everyone without TPA is a crook or scam artist.
