This is Mike Frost's typical response.

I trust my OWN EYES....In this industry the best thing to do when buying an auto is to KNOW what your buying and not because a piece of paper and a hologram says its real...YES its nice to have a cert accompanied with an signed item but if you don't know what your purchasing to begin with it may be better to research it out first...lots of collectors blindly purchase things because there cheap...but that does not necessarily mean its authentic...just a word to the wise...

I would put PAAS right there with GIA and in my opinion they both fall short of the mark. As far as your main question it is really confusing issue. PSA and JSA are decent but even they can and have made mistakes and if you buy something based on there opinion and it is a mistake you really have no recourse to get your money back as you just bought an opinion not a guarantee. I would say use them if you feel comfortable but always do your homework on an autograph that you are interested in before you purchase it. Google the person and autograph studies and you should be able to find a lot of examples of the bigger names out there in most fields. This saved me on a Brando signed letter as it was a 1950's secretarial. Next, make sure your source will stand by is item and will guarantee a full refund at least for a month or so to give you time to get another opinion. Also, a lot of the reputable dealers out there will be willing to give you their thought on an item if you ask and if they don't know they will usually direct you to someone who should be able to help you.

Excellent input and advice, Richard.

The probem with this advice is it's just way too much for a novice to overcome.  In time, perhaps but many place their faith in these "authenticators" (right or wrong) as that is what has given rise to the less desirable ones.

Incidently, there are others on the "limbo" list.    Those on that list get to argue their case in the interim....  failing that, they become nominees for the banned list.   I can only hope that the inbound class makes the banned list so we can be done with it...

but never fear, as Williams has reported the garbage is all over the place in 2ndary and tertiary auction sites....

all one needs to do is type Mike Frost in the search and it will give you loads of comments to come to your own conclusion...
