Is people's interests in signed memorabilia waning or something? It seems that sales (watchers/views), etc. is really dropping off. Or are there annual "slumps"? Anyone else notice or agree?

the market goes up then drops 800 points

its all has to do with the unstable economy

we went thru this with bush and collectibles and investments got killed so did peoples houses and portfolios

John, with all due respect, I think we should leave politics out of this.

Yes, especially when your comments make you look like a clueless idiot!

you have some good points john

But what the hell does Bitcoin have to do with it?

Please don't tell me you actually believe this.

bitcoin and crypto has a lot to with it people invest and made a ton of money .I did . then people got on when it peaked at 20k and lost .same as the stock market.

I had people buy a lot from me who ot in very early from crypto .it made a lot of people a lot of money who never had it

My family ran an antique and collectibles business for many years. I understand the business. Just like any other business there are peaks and valleys. If you have good quality stuff then eventually you will find a buyer. The ability to withstand the slow periods and having patience will pay off in the long run.

correct but I could take years to recover so u need funds to get by and its also like speculating.

If auto sales or card sales have slowed, possibly some recent and well-publicized, disappointing revelations about the validity of sports card grading and auto authenticating issues may be the culprit.

Aside from that, it stand to reason that such a high percentage of forgeries on ebay, at some point, has to impact sales. How often does a buyer have to get stung before throwing their hands in the air and walking away.

That’s very true, particularly with somewhat novice collectors.  Say a newcomer wants to join the hobby and he/she buys three or four autographs only to find out a few months later that they’re all fake.  They are probably going to say...what the...I’m out of here!

I agree with Woody very much and James as well. I just don't understand why folks think they have to buy first, get stung several times, and then start learning after "paying for an education". I hate that. A newbie can select an autograph they feel is good and post it here for review and get all the benefits of that - all w/o spending a penny on a graph or spending time on returns etc as we do so often here. Do folks go out and collect cars buy just buying one and seeing what happens w/o checking the papers - if any? Or having a friend look at it? Why is this different?

What about all the Psa and Beckett etc? There are plenty of good certified items on eBay. That should put peoples minds to rest.

I dunno - gotta be careful. Best to do your own research. The items below are all problematic IMO. Bowie didn't backdate. The Telly Savalas as Gleason is...the GA is not unexpected but its in a PSA slab and will likely stay there just as sure as others will be submitted..because the one above it, the bus photo, is a dopey forgery of a secretarial I got from PSA Jackie Gleason Facts Page - they have many. I know better and they don't? BTW, the older Gleason is by Patricia Saddleman late 1950's close to '60.
