Hi Gents, just signed up for the website and I guess this is my introduction to everyone.

Been an Elvis fan for as long as I can remember.  Both parents loved 50s & 60s so grew up with this music.  Confession time:  accidently broke my Dad's 78s when I stood on them.

As part of my contribution, I would like to challenge everyone to a quiz which I hope will prompt some debate so that us lesser mortals can learn more about differences between genuine and fake.

Attached are 10 examples of Elvis's signature.  The challenge is to  tell me which one's are genuine and which one's are fake.

Have a go and let me know your thoughts.

Ok, let me try to do it. #1,#2, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10 - authentic. #4 - probably fake. #3, #5 - hard to say. I guess #5 have more chances to be authentic than #3. Maybe it seems little bit strange but #6, #7 and #8 it's a examples of Elvis authentic signatures (I saw it before on RR auction website). #10 - if I'm right, it's card from library, when Elvis was a child. If a had a chance to buy only one autograph from that list I think I would choose #9 or #2, probably. But I like #9 much better.

I guess many people here agree with me.

Timothy

P.S. Really hard to say about #3, in generally it looks good, but I don't like few places.

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for response.

I will hold off commenting until we get a few more participants, so apologies but I have to keep you in suspense for the moment.

I am hoping the selections will prompt further discussion after I reveal the answer, so we can all learn something.

Jupiter

Come on people, any more takers!!!!

Never was good at quizzes.

Hi Joe.

Not really a quiz.  Just wanting feedback from everyone.

Motive is simple, I have bought signed items in past (many years ago) to discover they were forgeries.  I plan to rekindle a long lost passion and my aim is to avoid such disappointment in the future, so put this on to prompt discussion from everyone, particularly those who seem to have a lot more knowledge than me.

It is intended as a bit of fun with learning. No worries if you don't want to try though.

I see no obvious fakes...

Thanks Don for your reply, but still hoping for a few more contributors.

Will reveal all soon.

I can say for certain #1 and #6 are authentic, #4 im still iffy on, others have too many loops or forget the "V" letter in Elvis.

Thanks Gio,

Apologies for delayed acknowledgement but got caught up with other responses and missed yours.

I am just an observer but can't wait till the end. Of course once announced you will have to prove your own answers are correct -you are new and subsequent questions will be things like why should you  be believed vs those that who answered and have to a degree demonstrated their expertise on this web site...blah blah blah

Hi Sling, thanks for response (I think).

Re your comments about proof and being a newby, some may feel a little disconcerted at such directness however I will assume your intentions are honourable, despite the statement coming across as a little obtuse to a "newby".

I can assure you it will be very easy to prove and (arguably) without question - but that is the point of the initial question is it not, to prompt a discussion so that us "newbies" can learn from the expertise of you and others on this site... blah, blah, blan.

Forget whether you are new here or 100 years old, anyone who puts such a challenge forward cannot just says "#s 1,2,3 are right, 567 are wrong in a definitive fashion without explaining their reasons.

For all I know You may in 2 sentences be able to overwhelming prove to anyone why you are right in your answers and overwhelmingly knowledgeable on Elvis.

But I have seen things go the other way here so I am just informing you in case you don't know what will be coming as a normal course of affairs in these matters.

If you perceive anything I said as offensive you are way off base as I don't offend  people for no reason
