Michael Jackson drawings (Miscell inc. 'Historic portraits' and 'Disney characters')

I'm noticing a sudden influx of MJ signed Michael Jackson drawings coming on to the auction market, which seem to share the common themes of either 'portraits of historical figures'  or 'Disney characters'.

Both of these themes are of course recognised from Michaels' drawings both at a young age and later in life, but it is interesting that so many new drawings are being released on to the market at the same time.

Here are some current examples:

Prashant,

I am a huge fan of Roger, as everyone knows. Roger is an authenticator, though. He's not the keeper of secret provenance. If he was given the provenance, he may not be able to release it, but the seller should if they say it's from an insider.

For instance, The Memorabilia Vault represents the signed Michael Jackson drawings they sell as being from someone close to Michael Jackson, but they won't say who that is. That makes me think there's something rotten in Denmark. I would never consider buying one of those items without knowing who the insider is.

In no way was I saying Roger is 'hiding something ' or keeping a secret.  I am very confident in the Memorabilia Vault and their authentication/documentation process.  Yes they know who the insider is but the provider of these drawings wishes not to be revealed.  I think we can all respect that.

I have nothing against Memorabilia Vault, but that's the same kind of thing you hear from forgery sellers. If they can't identify the insider, don't say it's from one.

Another thing to keep in mind:

A good artist doesn't draw like an amateur when he does a quick sketch. It's just less detailed or may show signs of not being drawn on an ideal or rock-steady surface.

Picasso's sketches on restaurant checks are a prime example of that.

I have to disagree a little here sorry Steve
I know quite a few excellent artists who do outstanding work when they want and some pretty crappy stuff when the aren't in the mood lol

I agree with you Steve 110% on this.....especially when it comes to MJ!

Sam Iam,

I agree with you to a degree if the artist isn't in the mood, but I think we can assume that MJ wasn't forced to draw hundreds of drawings just to shut fans up. And certainly not an "insider."

Roger is pretty adamant the ones he certed are real and stands by them
I feel like he's getting thrown under the bus a little here and having his reputation a bit tarnished. IMO
Not in the least. I'm talking about the seller not identifying the insider.
But if the autograph is real the insider doesn't matter right?
And roger stands by these as being authentic

So are we supposed to just go with it because Roger says so???  Roger is great....but no one is perfect. I think any real collector will understand that no TPA can be 100% Exact 100% of the time. If anything he may find it helpful to discover this new info when it comes to MJ and the influx of new items on the market.  The autograph being "Real" is subjective and being that there are people on this forum that disagree....all evidence should come into play and be subjected to scrutiny.  Does'nt every forger...even the good ones, claim that the signatures are real?

Haha I have never dealt with Epperson before I've only read about his reputation on here, mostly from Steve and wascher so they must be on to something to disagree with him since they are his biggest cheerleaders
It's just whenever anyone asks about an MJ auto on here everyone says if Roger says it's good it's good
