Mickey Mantle Auto 8x10

What do you guys think of this one? A buddy of mine brought it to my attention and I wanted to get some opinions on if it is real or not. The second picture is of when Mantle appeared at a show to sign autographs in 1992. The 3rd picture is the same 8x10 and "certified" by GFA. Any help would be great.

It's a machine-signed forgery. We've seen them for years, first being sold to soldiers and vets through military exchanges (PXes).

The ones we saw were all color inket photos, the kind that weren't available until after Mantle died.

Sorry it was a fake, Marshall. But I was surprised to see my hometown on that ticket, Overland Park, Kansas! I've been to the Merchandise Mart numerous times. Unfortunately, I wasn't at that event with Mickey Mantle. I wonder what they were charging then for the Mick's autograph. I know you could get it cheap. About 15 years ago, I bought a Mickey Mantle signed ball from a friend for $150. He had the original box that the ball came in and a sticky note on the box that his dad had placed. The note showed the place in Arizona I believe where they got Mickey's autograph and the amount they paid in 1991: $10 !!

Wow. If we only had a crystal ball. One of the numerous vintage baseball cards I wish I had held on to in the early 1990s (but couldn't, I was in the business at the time) was a 52 Topps Mantle that I purchased for a few hundred dollars. I flipped it the same week and made maybe $150 to $200 profit. It was in poor condition. Now? PSA 1 examples sell for $7,000 to $10,000. Just 5 or 6 years ago a high grade 52 broke the $100k benchmark. Now? $400k to $500k.

And it's not a particularly rare card.

Demand for anything Mantle just continues to increase.

Mantle is such an iconic baseball figure. That Mantle rookie is such a gem in the hobby now. In 1999, I won an eBay auction for a Wilt Chamberlain rookie for $660. It was a PSA 9(OC). Granted it was a little off center, but most of the cards in that series were. But I recently saw a 9(OC) sell for over $4000! Ya, I'd love to have that one back.

But Mantle is one of those baseball names that will always be in demand, like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Williams, and a few others. But ya, in poor condition or not that Mantle is a great card. I would feel the same way.
