And finally a TTM success from Will "the Thrill" Clark. Photo was taken in the clubhouse the night the Giants won the World Series in 2010.

Picked up this cool Mantle from what I believe is his rookie year? Gonna display it over my Mantle baseball.

It'd be hard to prove (without specific knowledge of the advertisers/billboards) that the photo was from his rookie year, since the AL 50th Anniversary logo doesn't appear to be present on the sleeve. It's kind of a large logo, so I think you'd be able to see some evidence of it, it present. However, if you believe it's from 1951, that's all that matters, since it's really for display. :)

Here's a photo with the logo:

The photo Mike Kam posted appears to be a spring training pose. Would they have had the patch in spring training?

I have no clue, since I don't really collect vintage uniforms, but based upon the modern usage of patches, yes.

That photo that Mike Kam posted is absolutely from Mantle's rookie year (1951).  The stadium (based on billboard advertising) is Phoenix Municipal Stadium.  Where you can see "elevator company" is actually Phoenix Elevator Company.  Why is this relevant?  Because the Yankees only spent one spring in Phoenix, 1951.

The Yankees actually set up an instructional school for rookies prior to regular spring training starting in February...camp was set up in November of 1950, I believe, though i'm not sure when it started.  Mantle was there.

I believe the patch that Dane describes is just not visible in this picture (as there are some photos from spring training 1951 that have the patch, most notably on the pinstripe uniform - see below photo with same background, most likely from same photo shoot).

here is a photo from the instructional camp (notice same advertising in background)...not a great photo, but it looks like NO patches.

Here are some more photos...first of Mantle from Spring Training, then a few others from the same facility (different years, same advertising)...

Excellent research, David, and thank you for the information. I figured there must be a way to use the advertising the pinpoint the year, but I didn't know where to start looking.
