Authenticity is Everything
Soldier in Afghanistan Needs Sports Authenticity Opinions
A soldier in Afghanistan bought these sports autographs and would like to know what you think of them! Almost all have been authenticated, and I've either cropped the photos to remove the authentication stickers, or covered them.
Please only comment on authenticity when you feel confident in your opinion.
Thanks for helping one of our heroes in harm's way!

Rick, are you talking about the 8 or the 12?
Zippy...if you want to see larger versions of the 8, I have that for most.

The 12. I see a couple of the 8 as being authentic. The very middle for sure and the bottom left corner I would say is. A couple are close. Hard to choose looking at scan.

Rick, do you think any of the 8 are similar to the ones you got from AAFES? Similar enough to say they were from the same source.

None that I have were inscribed but I think the ones on the top right and top center look the closest. I think they could be.

IMO, the 12 are not Marino forgeries.
Whoever this forger is, came in to fill the void left by Marino. Chris could nail the timeline when these appeared better than I. I believe that some posters on Net54 have alluded to they know who it is or the source... I have no idea.

What I 'm asking is if Marino's work was as consistent as these. Zip, you mentioned the 12 are almost Autopen consistent, and I'll tell you, the consistency of those 12 are beyond what I thought would be humanly possible. Yet they are not traditional Autopen identical. Was Marino work that identical on the autographs he most commonly forged?

Marino's work was consistent within the handwriting of human confines. And one thing is for certain; Marino penned his work.

Has anyone overlaid these fakes? Steve C is right... they seem almost inhumanly consistent. Although, the Mantle, Mays and Snider from the other thread is the same forgery style. Because that is a super high res scan, we can see the streak marks... so it appears that it was hand signed -- not a stamp or laser print.
I agree with Chris that Marino had his own recognizable style, but it was not as consistent as these.
