I was surprised to see in one of my movie magazines, an interview with Tom Brady. Apparently he has a few movie projects and was talking about them. I was surprised when I read this. He is starting a company called "Autograph" and he hired more than 100 employees for that company. I have to admit, reading that made me think -- what will this company Autograph do? Is he going to sign footballs, 8x10s, ticket stubs, or items fans send in? The possibilities were endless. I figured with that…

Being an active collector of autographs and in the archival framing industry since the 1980s, it amazes me what I see when I remove autographs from most frames. It is very common to find household (acidic) tape and regular non UV glass contained inside frames. ANd, I have never seen 4 ply museum grade cotton rag for matting AND backing on these important autographs - NEVER!
Framers should know better when framing original autographs and documents. After all, these items are…

Napoleon’s autograph is certainly one of the most coveted by collectors from all over the world and of all eras. Just think that when Napoleon himself was still alive the interest in the documents written by his hand was so high that numerous fakes were already in circulation at the time.
With this article we want to share the outcome of the studies carried out on the intriguing question that sees protagonists various documents, literally scattered around the world, all attesting to…

Last I heard, there were no genuine, intact Beatles-signed guitars known. The only one was reportedly destroyed in a Malibu, Calif. landslide about 15 years ago.
RR Auction sold one a Beatles signed guitar around 2010, but the owner had tapped the autographs down with an awl to, um, "preserve them."…

There have been countless write-ups and articles about what to look for when it comes to buying autographs. Most have the same information such as "if it's too good to be true it probably is," and recommend comparing the autograph to known exemplars, secretarials, autopens and other references.
Instead of discussing the technical aspects of…

Law Firm of Gardner & Rosenberg P.C. Press Release, Sept. 15, 2015:
New York, NY ‐ A New York arbitrator this week slapped a high end Manhattan auction house with a judgment of more than $600,000 on a claim that it cheated a client out of the sale of two unique Michael Jackson items. The client alleged that Gotta Have Rock and Roll, a rock and roll…

I wish I could share a bunch of meetings with Williams, but I really only had one.
It was an interview before one of his stand-up shows in San Diego. There was a crowd of about 20 waiting for him before he went inside that afternoon. He looked sad as he carried a suit over his shoulder. Yet he signed for everyone, and posed for…

I've written a few books, the last one of which came out just over five years ago - Homemade Hollywood: Fans Behind The Camera, tracing the rise of "fan films"—those homemade Star Wars and superhero movies you find on the internet. It was also about the histories of amateur filmmaking and science fiction fandom, but mostly it was about people who dressed like Spider-Man and then swung off six-story buildings without a net, because "I needed the shot, man." It got good…

Very well organized, very spacious, clearly marked artists tables, and a pretty fair cross selection of some of Rock and Roll's best supporting cast of musicians and even those lead singers, from some of our generations biggest rock bands. This was the scene on Saturday September 14, 2013 (and Sunday September 15th) at the L.A. Rock and Roll Autograph Show, held at the Westin LAX Airport Hotel in Los Angeles.
Though not every table was a house hold name, the house was still very much…

It was over two years ago when I started seeing some very odd-looking Derek Jeter autographs on Ebay. I had never seen that particular style Derek Jeter autograph before. At the time, that style of Derek Jeter autograph was only being listed by one Ebay seller, and the common denominator was that all of them were authenticated by Global Authentics (whose lead authenticator is Steve Sipe) and the now defunct GAI.
My first thought was "Did Derek change his…

Last week, a property owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation called me up to repair a couple of framed antique prints that suffered some damage from the earthquake we had a few months back.
The items were donated to them from a prominent collector and were going to be displayed in their museum.
The original framing establishment was well known for framing important works of art. It was located in Georgetown, an affluent section of Washington, DC.
When I…

The summer is notoriously slow for autographs, even in good times, so with the recession still in full-bloom, few had high hopes for season sales. But University Archives reports that the high-end autograph market is alive and well. So well that the firm is experiencing one of its…

On September 9, 2011 the Pawn Stars reality show aired a segment in which they were offered a Bram Stoker signed "Dracula" book.
Corey (the same guy that purchased that ridiculously-funny Lou Gehrig signed jersey) was excited about purchasing the "Dracula" book signed by the author himself, Bram Stoker.
So Corey calls in "his buddy" Drew Max, Forensic Document Examiner, to examine the Bram Stoker signature. Mr. Max pulls out his Hubble-sized magnifying glass and begins to…
