Hello,

I just purchased this autograph on Juliens Auctions. The description that accompanies the signature states it was obtained around August of 1962. It is a promotional card (front & back) with the signature on the back made out to "Gail". It appears to predate the Beatles fan club era and the Parlophone promo cards. It is possibly a NEMS promotional card. It did not come with a COA (yes, I know I should never buy one without). Can anybody give me any information on this signature and promo card? Ideally I would like to have this authenticated by Tracks Ltd but I'm not sure if they take random signatures anymore.Autographs%20%2837%29.JPG

Great looking card and the autograph is sharp and bold.  Nice find!

I am not a fan of Julien's Auctions, but the autograph looks great to me.

Going forward, be sure to verify authenticity before you bid. Many auction houses, even highly reputable ones, have no return privilege, even for authenticity.

Quite true. I have been collecting for 40 yrs and I broke a major rule by not obtaining a COA but from all my research it looked good to me and I obtained it for $1500 usd. My only concern with the signature was the "J" in his first name looked a bit too perfect to me. And I'm pretty sure they didn't have any employees signing autographs for them in 1962.

I think it looks fine.

This is a rare and great piece. For me that promo card is rare. I prefer this style (1962) of each signature of the Beatles. I would it for me :-)

Do you know anything about the promo card itself? Who issued it, etc?

This autograph come from Tracks. It was in your site for some months. Strange not accompanies with Tracks coa. Ask to Jason of Tracks the coa, for me you not have problem to obtain it from him.

Thanks. I've been in contact with Tracks and Juliens. I did find this item was on another auction site at one time and it did come with a Tracks COA. I heard from Juliens today and they are pretty sure they can find the COA and send it to me. Pretty sure I got a good deal on this item as I won the bid with $1,500.

Including premium? Great deal

$1950 including premium but still not bad.

No it's a rare and great piece for me. Wonderful.

The photo was taken by Astrid Kirchherr. She was the girlfriend of Beatles bass player Stuart Sutcliffe...and a photographer who took some of the best photos of The Beatles while playing in Hamburg Germany in 1960-1962. This photo was taken in Hamburg in April 1962, while The Beatles were playing at the newly opened Star Club. Great piece and a great Lennon autograph!!!
