Pretty amazing. Only concern I have is sometimes the books have autopen signatures. I have seen this done with Colin Powell and Hillary Clinton as well as others.
The Hillary and the Powell Ones are good. Although I gave away 2 of the Powells. I could afford to at $1.99 each. I usually check for a possible autopen before I even take the book to the register. I've passed on Pele and Barbara Bush for those reasons. Either they were secretarial forgeries or autopen.
Glad to hear those are good. Are the Hillary Clinton ones signed in full or just “Hillary” which has become common recently?
Years ago I found a very nice fully signed Hillary Rodham Clinton signed book for $5 at a flea market. It turned out to be legit and not autopen. I sold it back in 2016 when she was running for President and now regret it because I started collecting autographs again and need her for my First Ladies collection.
I have one with just Hillary (Living History). I think the other is with Hillary and Chelsea. both with full signatures. Her recent ones were just HRC. Her stuff is all over the place. It went from full sig, to Hillary, to full sig, to HRC. When her hubby signed for me-he gave me a full sig. and he was an ex-president!
That’s interesting. If I add a Hillary Clinton to my collection I am seeking a full signed book so if I came across one with just “Hillary” or “HRC” I would have to pass. The one signed by her and her daughter with full signatures would be fine.
I was fortunate and was able to get Bill Clinton’s autograph from The President’s Daughter book he wrote with James Patterson. Fortunately the Patterson in this case was authentic and not autopen like it was with the previous book, The President is Missing. The only thing that would had been better is if I got the tipped in page version instead of the bookplate. The tipped in page had better looking signatures and were bigger.
And Barbara Bush - there's a not-insignificant number of sellers online trying to pass of the pre-printed signature in her memoirs as legitimate. Really annoying, but far from the only case.
I happened to find a Barbara Bush signed book and I was afraid it might be autopen but for $8 I took the gamble. When I got home, I verified it was legit so I was very happy with that.
I had seen on eBay people selling those Barbara Bush books with printed signature being sold as signed.
I think it's probably because the market got flooded. That seems to happen with most stuff. I remember when Billie Eilish had signed cassette tapes people flooded ebay and they were selling for around $50-60 each. Then after the flood dried up they kept creeping up and have sold for up to $400 or so last I checked. If the resellers were more patient they'd get more money most likely. Another thing I could see hurting the value on this is that it's 2 very different signers. Not every Obama fan likes Springsteen and vice versa.
I don't get how some people are selling at or barely above on ebay considering they take like 15% in fees. Plus if you ship this with insurance it'll be expensive to ship, and on top of that the new tax laws that force you to file a 1099 form if you sell a total of $600 online. Seems like people are losing money or barely breaking even on this unless they got lucky and got the $250 B&N copies.
A few thoughts on this -
I have seen that happen before…seems like market is flooded and then years go by and those same items go for a lot more money.
Regarding the Springsteen and Obama, as one poster mentioned, you could remove the signed page from the book, separate the two autographs and sell them separately. I have noticed people will pay crazy prices for the signature alone, especially if encapsulated and authenticated by a respected third party authentication company.
Yeah…I don’t understand why people are selling these for $600 considering the eBay fees, shipping, hassle and everything else and probably not making any money in the end…just hang onto the book and wait.
Looking at some eBay profiles, there are sellers here who seem to buy and sell anything collectible that makes a profit. From Funko Pops to high-end household appliances. Sellers like that often have a set amount of investment money, so it's all about turnaround.
You can hold on to the book and sell it for $750 a year or two from now, for example. Say $200 profit after fees. A good return-on-investment compared to having the money in the bank for 2 years.
But if you sell it now for $600 or so, you can make $50 net profit in a week and have your investment money back to buy something else. If you can find 10 of those deals a year, that's $1000 profit over those same two years.
It's a lot of work of course, I don't think it makes a good hourly rate, but looking at the money alone I can see it make sense for some.
I know from my experience I ordered several figure in summer get canceled which they did. Then I wound up with four of them. So I gave one as a Christmas gift and I’m keeping one. The other two I’m gonna hang on till and hopefully someday be able to trade somebody for something that I’m looking for or sell them but I’m not gonna let them go for nothing.
It's Just a Shame this was not offered for sale anywhere in the UK at all and, sadly it was just a blatant rip off $50 non signed .... $500 signed - I did eventually have one in my basket a few weeks ago thanks to you great people on here but i could not justify paying $500+ dollars plus shipping for a Book where i only wanted Springsteens Signature - not interested in politicians at all - non signed hardbacks have been selling for £11 on Amazon UK for weeks - and reading the reviews clearly not very good anyway apart from the Sig of course.
