Does anybody have an idea who would want a typed letter with his signature from Lake Saranac, NEW York (where Christy went because he had Tuberculosis) or have any idea how much it would be worth?

Can you post an image of the autographed letter Tony?

Here is a picture of the letter.

Thank you Tony.  Very nice.

If authentic, it is a valuable autograph and there are plenty of buyers. However, there are more bad Mathewson autographs than authentic ones. Post the picture of the autograph here for an opinion.

While I am certainly not an expert on Mathewson autographs, this one looks to be pretty consistent with authenticated ones I have seen.

We'll see what others here think about it.

May be worth submitting to a major auction house for further evaluation.

As to your question about value, PSA/DNA list the value of a Mathewson signed letter at $15,000. That would be a good starting point for a fully authenticated one and in a major auction it could bring more or less but it is certainly valuable if authentic which I believe it is.

Mathewson usually crossed his "t"'s with a diagonal slash as he did in "Mathewson" but I found several examples that looked like this one with the beginning of the "M" crossing the "t" in "Christy."

How did you acquire the letter?

I was given old scrapbooks from the local Tuberculosis society(ALA) that were to be thrown out and I found this letter on one of the pages.

very cool find!

Given the source and the fact that it clearly does not appear to be a secretarial signature, I would say it is authentic.

There are many ways to sell it but to get maximum value I would suggest contacting a major auction house such as Heritage and check on consigning it to them. Normally, they get 20% of the hammer price from the seller as well as the authentication fees but for items like this you can often negotiate a better rate and sometimes get no seller fees at all.

It can be sold on Ebay or on this forum for that matter as well but without being authenticated it would not bring near the estimated retail value.

Hopefully, you can donate some of the proceeds back to ALA when sold.

Congrats on a great find.

very cool, and rare
