Robert, I don't mind making a few cheap purchases for autographs if I know it is legit. I just bought a b&w collage of James Best on The Andy Griffith Show from his site. I didn't want to pay much. I do like autobiographies. I wonder if he mentions Centennial. He wasn't on it a whole lot but a relative of mine was in Centennial also so I would be interested in that.

Philip, James Best played Rosco on The Dukes Of Hazzard. On his website, most of the pictures are from Dukes of Hazzard.

Great day today! First, I got an autograph from Joe Dumars of the Detroit Pistons. Then, Michigan State beat Michigan 34-17!

I know technically these are not TTM as they are not free, but they are private signings that you can only get "by mail," so I thought you guys may want the info.

Why are sports autographs so expensive? That's crazy prices.

I sent a $25 donation to Tippi Hedren about a month ago because I really wanted her autograph. I am a big Hitchcock fan. I got the autographed picture today. I figured maybe a current photo would be sent since she was providing the picture. I was very happy that it was a publicity photo from The Birds. She personalized it to me...To Mark With Fear!! Tippi Hedren. I love it!

Hey Mark, I can't really tell you why sports autographs cost so much, other than supply and demand; the supply being limited, and the demand in that everyone may want an autograph of a certain player. However, I have learned some "tricks" to cut down on some of the high prices:
1.) Wait until the player is traded. I recently picked up autographed photos of Gregor Blanco and Yunel Escobar, 2 former Braves, for $5 a piece. When they appeared at shows around town during their time here in Atlanta, the show fee was about $25 for each. They are both really good young ball players who have tremendous futures ahead of them, but since they are no longer on the team, the demand for their autographs dropped off, and so did the price.
2.) Get the player in an odd team's jersey. For instance, when you think of Joe Namath, you think about him as the great New York Jet quarterback, not the beaten and battered quarterback playing out his career as a Los Angeles Ram. If all you want is the autograph, it should not bother you as to what jersey he is in.
3.) GET THEM EARLY!!!!! Although they are absoultely boring to me, I read some of the "can't miss prospects" publications out there for the various sports and their franchises. I find out who has the potential to be the next big star, and either write to them or go to minor league games to obtain their autographs before they become that big star in demand. I stood in line with 6 people and paid a meager $35 bucks (autograph + photo) in November of 2008, on a little known prospect named Jason Heyward. Now, you can't even sniff a Heyward autograph for less than $100. Those are a few things I do to try and cut down on prices somewhat.
