Stuntmen have all the luck. Okay, wait. Scratch that. I just remember a book about Hollywood I read once (You’ll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again), the first female film producer in Hollywood talked about a stuntman on the set of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, driving 50 feet off a cliff and having his leg snap. He insisted they not call an ambulance, because stuntmen that “complained” didn’t get work. So, aside from the injuries and death involved,…

I was listening to sports talk shows on the radio. They can be a lot of fun, but sometimes they drive you nuts. How many times can I hear people debate who is better between LeBron James and Michael Jordan? Or if the Lakers Lonzo Ball will be the next Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd, or … Todd Marinovich (anybody remember him? Last we heard, he was naked in a…

I met Michael Jordan a few times. He was never very nice. At the time, I was a sports reporter for a radio station. On the first occasion, I just did a quick interview with him. There were other reporters waiting to get quotes or sound bites, and he was there with the “Dream Team.” It was the first time the United States allowed NBA players to join the Olympic team, and they had a great one: Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, to name a…

I met actor Jeffrey Tambor at an event and told him how much I loved him in “The Larry Sanders Show.” He grabbed my hand, thanked me, and talked about how much that show meant to him and what it did for his career. We had a nice chat about the show. I was tempted to bring up the episode he was in of “Taxi” which was terrific. I thought about telling him how…

I did a blog about the Tom Brady Super Bowl jersey that disappeared. I thought it would only be fitting (no pun intended) to do the follow up.
A media executive working for the Mexican media named Martin Mauricio Ortega is the suspect. He’s the former director of the tabloid La Prensa. He went to the Super Bowl as a working…

I have a love/hate relationship with TMZ. I watch it a lot because they’re funny, but I also think what they do is a bit weasly. One of my justifications to the wife on why I have it on, is because they sometimes show celebrities signing autographs, and it might possibly be fodder for one of these…

OHIO.
It was on my mind a lot yesterday (that almost sounds like a Ray Charles song). I was talking to a friend about a Fantasy Football controversy we were having (believe me, as I write that, I realize how nerdy that makes me sound). He screamed into the phone, “Oh my god! Trump just won Ohio. This election is all over.”
That was four hours before it was…

I always get a kick out of stories where one celebrity asks another for an autograph. The last blog I wrote dealt with Phil Collins and his bad experience asking Sir Paul McCartney for a signature. This latest story, worked out a lot better for the person requesting an autograph.…

I’ve always loved making bets with people. It’s a way to win a little cash if somebody is talking arrogantly about something they know little about; and...well..it’s just fun to gamble. Isn’t it so much more exciting watching a football game when you either have a fantasy football player on a team, or…

I’ve been playing basketball for almost 40 years. As a kid, aside from playing it, I loved getting autographs after Clippers games (back when they were in San Diego). Most of the big name stars would walk right by you to climb onto the team bus. My…

I thought about doing a blog with a bunch of jokes that came to mind. Since the announcement was made about Tom Brady being suspended for four games for deflating footballs against the Colts, I immediately thought about Pete Rose and autographs. There was the time an entrepreneur got Rose to sign a number of baseballs with the inscription “Sorry I bet on baseball.”
The…

I always like pointing out autograph scenes in movies. The latest is in “The Age of Adaline” (you can read my review here: http://fox5sandiego.com/2015/04/24/the-age-of-adaline/ )
There’s a scene early in the movie where Adaline needs some fake IDs. She goes to a kid that’s living with his parents. He’s got a few autographed baseballs that she glances at. At first I thought she was going to say, “Oh, Willie Mays. I…

Lots of people collect autographs of the Presidents. There are lots of things you have to watch out for – secretary, autopen, etc. Oh, there’s also the guy that bought an autographed picture of the White House, signed by Presidents, Vice Presidents, First Ladies…yet the charity selling it got it from Charity Fundraising Packages – which deals in forged items.
That being…

Last week on the late night shows, the big news was that Saturday Night Live’s head writer, Seth Myers, would be taking over Jimmy Fallons slot when he moves over to The Tonight Show next year.
Well, what I enjoyed about the shows last week was all the talk about autographs.
Kimmel was talking about how ridiculous it was that Dennis Rodman sent a tweet asking North Korea’s leader a favor. This, of course, after Rodman went there and was hanging out with…
