Hi all! New member here :) Ok so I have a question on this signed Beatles album I have come into my possession. Here is the back story: It is the old cliche, my father collected many things including many autographs throughout his life and two years ago he passed away. Going through his stuff I came across this signed Sgt.Peppers album. I know...I know, this is like the holy grail of Beatles stuff and know what it is potentially worth. I have done a lot of research and comparatives and they look legit to me from their styles, to how hard they push when they sign. I emailed Roger Epperson for a quick opinion and he messaged back saying "I'm sorry but this is not authentic in my opinion, it's really a very harsh attempt at their autographs." I disagree and am not ready to give up on this and want to obtain other opinions, My question is, what are your opinions? What would you guys do? Anything you could tell me would help me greatly! Thank you!

Unfortunately, Roger is absolutely correct. These are very poor forgeries.
What makes them poor though? I have compared a lot of authenticated ones and they look similar. The ones currently on eBay are poor, lol
What makes them poor is the extent to which they differ from authentic Beatles autographs. There are very good forgeries out there, but these are obviously bad.
forgeries are intended to look like authentic signatures. That is how they fool the novice collector. These are not good forgeries, they are very easy to spot.
Terrier is right on and I have written this hundreds of times.
You wrote " I have done a lot of research and comparatives and they look legit to me from their styles."
Unless you have done some very extensive studying of autographs, forgeries will always have the appearance of looking authentic.
That's why the forgery industry is so huge. 80% of those who buy autographs, purchase forgeries and the scammers use it to their advantage.
+1 If I can't see it myself, I don't buy it. Education and experience are key, and can be free as well.
So true, Eric.
I hate to say it but Roger's right again. Ballroom, too. I'm sorry to say that these were definitely not signed by the Beatles in my opinion.
I don't know probate law, but if his estate or a trust haven't been closed, you may have a chance of getting a refund. It won't be easy.
What are the details of the purchase? Do you receipts or any authentication papers or COAs that came with it?
Thank you both for your opinions, it is appreciated! I just have to be sure before deciding what to do with it. I didn't buy, it was among my fathers belongings when he passed away so I inherited it, didn't pay for anything. Now I am just trying to see if it is authentic, but it is sounding more and more like not.
Darrin,
One sign that you probably will be able to tell, even not knowing their autographs well, is that Paul McCartney's autograph on yours has a distinct right slant, but he is lefthanded.
What you're going through happens far too often.
As already indicated the signatures are most assuredly not genuine. If you look closely you will notice that the signatures were written “very carefully” to ensure they could get close to the real thing. This lack of flow inherent in a natural signature is a sure sign of a forgery. Hopefully your father did not pay too much for this item.
The fact that I am going to comment on these is a clear indication that these are not authentic
Several members here are very knowledgeable about Beatles signatures and have studied for years..... I only flirt with them and I can see right away that these are forgeries
Just keep it as a reminder of fond memories, but don't waste any money trying to get these authenticated. It will be a losing battle.
Plus, I'm quite sure there will be several other members commenting here and you will see the overwhelming decision who side with Epperson's opinion.
