Better to have a part-signed Beatles set or a full set with some secretarials?

I've been observing a Beatles item over the last few months that hasn't found any takers despite repeated price reductions. It is an airline menu signed by John and George. The signatures of Paul and Ringo are apparently by John and Aspinall respectively.

Just the John and George signatures on a very attractive vintage menu would seem to justify the current start price (ca. $2,500) so I'm wondering whether secretarials actually have a negative impact on values. Any views?

Of course it could be that the John and George signatures may not be real but the menu was originally sold through Bonhams in 2022. Here it is:

Where is it for sale Pug?  Its a shame about the Paul sig which I dont like but I think its better to have a partially well spaced out Beatles set. However, with this one ,the vintage menu is really attractive to look at

As you will see, it sold at Bonhams for close-on £4,000 including BP etc. Even the Buy-It-Now price (ca. CHF 3,500)  is considerably less than that.

Here is the blurb as it reads when put through Deepl:

Starting price reduced by a whopping 500 francs!!!!

Extremely rare from the well-known and expert auction house Bonhams in London.

Autographs ca. 1967 on a flight from Hong Kong to London via Rangoon, Dehli, Beirut and Rome. Signed in black ink. Paul McCartney's autograph was written by John Lennon and Ringo Starr's by the famous "5th Beatle" Neil Aspinall. Autographs of Lennon and Harrisson genuinely signed by both Beatles.

This is a signed on-board luxury menu card which was originally signed by hand by John Lennon and George Harrison themselves. 28.5 x 19 cm.

It comes from a 1st class B.O.A.C. stewardess from this flight.

Verified as genuine by Bonhams experts.

A real rarity for every music fan!

This is a good question. Personally, I don’t know. I guess I’d go for one without secretarials.

Would a good conservator have any chance of being able to remove the Starr & McCartney?

Yes, but I wouldn’t.

I had a well known restorer damn near destroy a piece I sent him (Jaime Mendez). Since then, I am not a fan of having work done.

I don’t think the secretarials lower the value at all. I think the issue is the menu itself. If these four signatures were on a Beatles-related image or even a less prominent image, it would be a different story.

Going off tangent somewhat, I have seen a restorer add 2 beatles sigs onto a set of autographs that had only 2 Beatles sigs on it to make up a full set.  Scarily good which makes me wonder how many of the fully signed Beatles sets up for sale  at auctions  are all 'originals'

I’ve seen a Fan Club card that was made into a full set by removing an Aspinall Macca signature and replacing it with a Macca from another Fan Club card. They also touched up the George signature. I’m sure you’d be able to see the work when viewing it in person.

I saw that Fan Club Card where the Macca was replaced and viewing it online, it looked seamless, but as you say, in person could be a different story. Personally I am not a fan of doing anything to my items, I believe it could potentially devalue them

+100 unless to preserve, conserve or stabilize.

I agree. I’ve mostly seen concert posters that have been restored. The restoration isn’t apparent when viewing them in person, but if you hold them up to a bright light you can see darker areas where the work was done.
