2024 - YOUR BEST "VINTAGE" ACQUISITION

I saw an earlier thread on this topic but can't find it.

I would really like to know your best "pick" this year, with some explanation about why it is important to you. A picture would be good.

While I do not wish to exclude our younger listeners from the conversation, I am not talking here, about Taylor Swift and other 2024-related releases which - desirable as they may be to many - cut not-so-much-ice with us older non-hipsters.

So, what have you got! Show and tell!

A 1988 photo Christmas card, sent by John Cale, to his former (and future) Velvet Underground bandmate, Sterling Morrison.

Cale has signed the card on behalf of himself, his then-wife, Risé, and his three-year-old daughter, Eden:

I love collecting unique, personal items, especially when they have a direct connection between two band members. You just don’t see this kind of thing offered for sale every day.

The image of Cale in bed with his wife and child, with the 1980s patterned wallpaper behind them, is also bizarre and very funny.

I recently acquired this vintage signed Mariah Christmas CD. I don’t usually purchase dedicated items but I really liked this one - which is also signed twice & to me adds to the charm. I have quite a few vintage full Mariah signatures to which this will be added (on vinyls, photos etc)

This. No question - looked every day for 6 years solid. She is truly hard to find in vintage form! Worse then Gleason. I did not even see an album page. This just popped up a while ago and I offered until it sold.

She is tough in vintage material. Years ago I had a playbill signed for LADIES NIGHT IN A TURKISH BATH that I happened upon in the early days of eBay.

Great item Eddy! Like the dedication/name :-) That is not a Trixie promo I think (appears post 1956)- what is it? Is it 5x7? Not much info at Pinterest. Why does it seem that these wonderful items fade at a rate faster than common material? :-(

Older non-hipsters? I did sell 2 sheets of contact prints showing the beat poet Ted Joans in his Village apartment in 1960 this year ;)

One of the images from the 2 sheets of original 1961 contact prints (2" x 2", 22 images) showing the Musician, Beat Poet and Surrealist Painter Ted Joans reading/performing The Hipsters in the Village, photos taken after the reading outside the venue (others are holding copies of The Hipsters, Joans is holding a flower), photographs of him in his studio, him working/ typing, Joans with his trumpets, even holding a rhinoceros statue which is a recurring motif in his work, posing with his paintings, entertaining friends in his studio "Jones Alley" and having a meal at an outdoor cafe etc. These are very dynamic images - there are two that appear to show him posing with the man on the cover of The Hipsters in his studio. These are better than anything I have found online. He shared a room with Charlie Parker and Joans was responsible for the famous "Bird Lives" graffiti after Parker's death in March, 1955. Joans was a contemporary and friend of Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, Leroi Jones, Gregory Corso, Diane Di Prima, Bob Kaufman, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and others. Joan's famous bohemian costume balls and rent parties were photographed by Fred McDarrah and Weegee.

My best vintage acquisition this year was this 1961 Chateau Cheval Blanc. It's from an old, dusty cellar, but one that's been consistently at the right temperature since the 1800s.
