I was at a movie screening of “The Current War” (good movie), and my wife was laughing at how a movie involving Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison, could involve autographs (Edison is asked, on three different occasions, to sign an autograph; one of those times being a doctor who came to treat his wife). I got home and turned on the news, and it was a less pleasant autograph story.
In San Diego, the Starlight Bowl…Continue
The title of this blog might be a little of a bait-and-switch. Yes, I did get Bob Dylan’s autograph, but that was years ago, and that was purchasing a signed album from an auction. It was “Blood on the Tracks” -- easily his best album (that’s not even open for debate). It’s the other Dylan, his son Jakob, who I got in person recently. He did a great documentary that’s out now called “Echo in the Canyon” (you can read my review on it here:…Continue
My wife said I needed help. I think she’s considering having an intervention for me. You see, she witnesses the autographed CDs that arrive in the mail. She thinks I have a problem and I need help. I try to explain...I’m a functioning autograph collector. I can buy autographed CDs and still make a car and house payment. In fact, it would be foolish NOT to buy an autographed CD by artists that sell them. They’re usually the same price.…Continue
It ain’t cheap, babe. I said, no, no, no...it ain’t cheap babe. But this is the guitar that you’re looking for….
It’s a 1963 Martin D-28 acoustic that Bob Dylan played at many concerts in the ‘70s, including his “Rolling Thunder Revue” tour in the mid-70s.
When Heritage Auctions auctions it next month, they’re expecting $300,000 for the ax. The person making good money on it is Larry Cragg, who was Dylan’s guitar…Continue
I've never seen Tom Petty play live. I had a few of his albums, as well as his Greatest Hits CD (love his cover of "Something in the Air"). When I worked at a classic rock radio station in the early 90s, I was ticked when he did an interview show on another station and some of the DJs from our station went to the taping. They all got his new album, Full Moon Fever (with the terrific "Running Down a Dream") autographed. Had I know, I would've been there. Or at least given them a record to get…Continue
I can take or leave the band Kiss. I have a few of their albums, a few of their CDs, and as a kid always made fun of any of anybody that dressed as one of them on Halloween. That’s why it makes it so much more frustrating when I didn’t get guitarist Ace Frehley’s autograph. You see, as an autograph collector, the two most frustrating autograph attempts are: A) the…Continue
