I was out looking for signed items on Abe's Books and ran across this signed Beatles signed Sgt. Peppers album.  Yikes on the price and no pic of the item.

Here's a link but it's not worth $399,000. John forged "Lennon" on the dark part of his image.

It's offered by Rare & Signed, AKA "Rarely Real":

Thanks Steve.

Can sellers on abebooks be trusted? I've seen a few items over the years but passed because I was not comfortable purchasing high priced items on that site

In general? I've ordered several items from Abebooks over the past few years -- been about a 50% legitimacy rate. Had to file a couple chargebacks because fake signed books were sent to me. Make sure you search with the "seller-supplied images" filter, and be mindful of "too good to be true" deals.

Thanks for the info. I definitely do not want the hassle of charge backs on high priced items. Ill just stay away completely

50%??? I thought you were a better authenticator than that!

:)

If Rare and Signed is allowed to sell there, then apparently anyone can.

Without going into too much detail and hijacking this post, there is a rare set of books I've been looking to buy for a while that is accompanied by a signed letter. Ebays "cheap" items have all dried up. I should have just grabbed one last year. There are still a couple on abebooks but this signed letter can easily be forged or reprinted and I wouldn't know it until its in my hands. I guess Its best to just forget about it

I'm sure you know of Biblio used books too Jason. I've bought some decent older signed titles from there and they'll usually have a picture of the signature before purchasing. GL.

I purchased a signed book once from biblio. The book came unsigned. It was only $8 and they refunded without issues but I stopped dealing with them since. This was years ago. I have an understanding of how they work but still feel uneasy about buyer protections that comes from lack of experience from using them.

Gotcha, I'm sure there are many other members with much better information about them but I've purchased signed titles from John Cleese, Joe Perry, Pete Townshend, Mike Love, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter and several more over the past year but they always had a picture of the actual signatures before I purchased them and the book condition was described accurately as well. I haven't had an issue with any of them but again, much more experienced members might have a different experience or opinion of them.

Don't forget to include $51.67 for shipping on that $399,175.23 purchase!
