Ebay Seller Curtsnow Mickey Mantle Autographed Baseball Forgery Gotta Read This!!!

Check out the below Mickey Mantle forgery on a baseball listed by Ebay seller Curtsnow.

Ebay seller Curtsnow writes "This baseball was signed for me by Mickey Mantle in 1964 at a Red Sox game in Fenway Park."

As we all know, the below Mickey Mantle forgery on a baseball is a typical 1990's penned forgery.  Thousands of this particular style forgery were penned during the 1990's.

Let's look at the baseball.

The baseball is a Bobby Brown baseball.  Bobby Brown was president of the American League between 1984-1994.

So how is it possible that Mickey Mantle could have signed a Bobby Brown baseball in 1964!!!

This is what these scammers on Ebay do.  They lie!!!

Why do they lie?  Because they know the suckers and wannabe autograph collectors will fall for their lies and purchase their forgeries.

This is why we will continue to expose the sellers/scammers of forgeries on Ebay.

Here is that stupid auction of a Mickey Mantle forgery on a baseball listed by Ebay seller and scammer Curtsnow.

Unreal!
Lol FAIL

I especially like the "sorry, no returns" policy.  that should scare any one away.

He has ended the auction...not sure if it had anything to do with my exchange of messages with him (or if anyone else also messaged him or eBay?):

--------------

Me: Did you really get this in person in 1964? Tell me about your encounter with. Mickey!

Curtsnow: little league went to fenway, 1/2 to red sox, others to yankees train room. i was 1 of" unlucky" ones. Met , Mantle , Berra, everyone got a ball. Mantle hit homer, threw runner out, became my hero. He was all taped up @ the time. I was 13. Don't really remember much. Berra very gruff, Skowron large. Mantle smiling. I think (not sure) was August, '63 actually.

Me: Did you go back from the future? The ball that was signed has Bobby Brown as president of AL...he didn't start in that position until 1984!!!!

I would really love to go on a time machine, so please share with me how you were able to do it!!

Aliens???

No reply, of course

LOL, hilarious lie. Some of these eBay seller's have the IQ of a peanut unfortunately.

I contacted him yesterday as well. I basically asked him how the ball could've been signed in 1964 when that particular ball was only produced between the years 1984 - 1994. He didn't respond.

When I started professionally authenticating space autographs several years ago, I contacted some of the well known people in the industry for advice and insight.

One pro told me, "Never believe the stories. Just ignore them. The signature needs to stand on its own."

That advice has served me well, and it is a good guideline for collecting as well. I have also found, the more elaborate the story, the faker the autograph. For example, "Berra very gruff, Skowron large. Mantle smiling." Unnecessary details designed to distract.

I agree. Sometimes details (like the ones you pointed out) are added to stories as distractions, and sometimes certain details are left out that make me ask myself, "How could a person not vividly remember his/her encounter with a legend like Mickey Mantle?" I mean, for me personally, that's a memory that would stay fresh in my mind for eternity. Even if it happened 50 years ago.

One thing I will add...

The stories rarely prove anything real, but often they can prove something fake... or at the least the seller is lying. This is the true value of stories -- to rule something out.

Exactly. That's why I always ask for them--to see how many details there are and if the facts check out.

I don't care what those details are beyond easily verifiable numbers (unless they go along with an inscription after it's deemed to be a genuine signature), just how many there are.

The true almost always is somewhere in the middle of "I saw him. He signed it. The End." and "The sky was a dark shade of blue with a few clouds at 5:15pm on Sunday, August 13..."

In this case, it was the verifiable numbers that did it. Hell, forgery lesson 101: Always use period appropriate writing instruments and items. The first thing I was taught to look at, as a collector of signed baseballs, was the name on the back of the ball and the years they served.

This particular style Bobby Brown baseball was produced for the American League between 1989 - 1994. It is not signed by Mickey Mantle.
