Just canceled my order through BnN

Thanks for the info

I would have done the same. I did not partake in this one. It will be interesting to see how our list grows in the future with "stamped" signatures. As Michael Lee stated earlier on, what a waste of everyone's time.

I hate seeing autopens but love how the autograph community is finally rising up and not taking it anymore. You would think celebrities would learn by now that this is unacceptable. If you buy something stated as autographed, in a perfect collectors world, there should be penalties to the celebrity if the item is not a real autograph. It should be fraud if you do not receive exactly what you purchase in cases like this.. I can only dream.. in reality, this is still going to be a big problem collectors will face. starting from the top, if the president can use an autopen to sign bills into law, legally, there wont be much done about this. I just hope celebrities are starting to lose money when the community complains. Managements will take notice and steer their clients away from this practice.

I’m with you. At least with social media fans stand a chance. Due to backlash many stars have corrected their errors and wouldn’t dare autopen again. Also, those going into a signing agreement with a celeb now have some awareness of the hell to pay (refunds and chargebacks) they will face if fakes are determined. It’s very very bad PR.

Two things. Jimmy Carter signed 2,000 books in 2 hours (here in San Diego). He was in his late 80s, I believe. So if an old dude can crank out that many in two hours...any celeb can just sign 500 a day, and...it wouldn't take that many days to get it done.

Second, I was at Barnes & Nobles and thrilled to see a signed Seth MacFarlane book and bought it (it had the "autographed copy" sticker). Are you guys saying that's autopen? And...would they take it back? (without the receipt, and purchased a year or so ago)

That is 16 autographs a minute...that is 1 autograph every 3.75 seconds...

I have been to a few of his book signings. He was a signing machine!

Over the years his "J. Carter" signature that he introduced for the appearances deteriorated somewhat, but he was really something to witness.

Regarding the MacFarlane, I think you're out of luck. If it's the Inside Family Guy book, that one was released around Black Friday 2019 so I can't imagine they'd take it back now. As far as I know all of those were autopenned. Seth tried to pull the same autopen crap last year with some trading cards too. His autopen is really complete, while his real autograph kind of just looks like "SMe."

This was shared in the RAAC FB group, but this was my favorite part:

“The singer, who spent three years in residential therapy, also revealed this week she was withdrawing from publicity for the memoir.

On Friday, she tweeted: “This is to announce that having done three weeks’ promo for my book I am now pulling all further promo as the past is not a happy place for me to be dwelling in.”

Has there ever been such a bad DOA memoir before?

Got this reply from Barnes & Noble when asking about cancelling the order...

We have been made aware of an issue with the Signed Edition of Sinead O’Connor’s new book, Rememberings, due to how the books were signed.  We will be reaching out to you via emailail within the next few days to address the situation.

At this time, we kindly ask that you await further communication before canceling your order.

Thank you for your patience as we fully investigate.

Barnes and Noble sending me a free copy for my trouble. I cancelled my order, so Im sure they are stuck with TONS of these. Bad, bad move on her part. Im turned off as a fan, def. would not have spent the money to buy it, so I guess Im happy?

Yup. I received that email too. I have reproduced it below.

We are writing to you about your recent order for the Signed Edition of Rememberings by Sinead O'Connor. In regard to the upcoming release, Sinead O'Connor tweeted the following confessing that she had signed the books using an auto-pen without book retailers' knowledge:

“Also, a confession. The books which are signed, I signed using a signature stamp: as I was not in a position to hand write my name ten thousand times, which is how many I was asked to sign. My son was unwell, as was I. So I stamped them myself. And it is my signature”.

As our goal is to provide hand-signed books through our Signed Editions program, we will instead be fulfilling your order with the same quantity of the unsigned edition upon its release on June 1, 2021.

You will be refunded for any charges associated with the signed edition(s) you ordered and will not be billed for the unsigned edition(s) we are sending you. Please note, your shipping confirmation email and the packing slip included in the shipment will indicate that you received and were billed for the signed edition. Please disregard that information as it will not reflect the changes we have made.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your understanding. We hope to see you again soon in your local Barnes & Noble store and online at BN.com.
