I have had this question that’s been lingering ever since I’ve started collecting...but should you buy an autograph just because it’s been authenticated by a leading third party authenticator like JSA, PSA, or BAS. Regardless of the sealer or their history, Wether they are reputable, unheard of, or have had problems, does having an experts opinion and a coa from either of those companies make it automatically authentic or at least safe to buy from. This has been a question I’ve had for a while and was just wondering if you could give me your opinions. Thank you!
Definitely not. You shouldn’t buy an autograph simply because it has been authenticated by one of those TPAs. None of them has a perfect track record.
In short - not in my opinion. If you mean buying blindly and relying on external opinions without any personal experience with the autograph and to buy just because it has some papers is a potential recipe for trouble I think. Mistakes get made. Only you can really protect yourself with experience and observation.
No. It will almost certainly inflate the price, but that's really about the only thing you're guaranteed. They've "authenticated" loads of fakes and continue to do so.
Never buy based on a sticker buy based on the signature!
